GS owners-do you wish you had bought the Z06?

The GS is perfect for me. Like you, I had the money in the bank, but just didn't want the z06 bad enough to spend the extra 14k. Turned out to be a good decision. For me. For someone else maybe not. It's pretty expensive to trade up so be careful if $20k+ is significant to you.

I went Stingray 1LT, then GS 1LT and I love it. Z would be nice but didn't want to spend the extra cash.
I'm happy with my decision and in the end that's all that matters

First, let me say that I love my GS. When I ordered it, I was already pushing the limits of what I was comfortable with spending on a car/toy. The GS 460hp was already more power than any car I had ever owned, so it was an easy decision to not spend the extra $14K on the Z06 even though I could afford it. After driving it for 2 years now, the only time I wish I had a bit more power is on the track straight sections; I think the GS with 500-525hp would be the sweet spot; I can always supercharge it if I just need to have more power. Having said that, the GS is more car than I'll ever be able to exploit 100%. If (and that's a big if) I ever decide to replace it, I'll consider a Z06 just for the experience. On the street, 460hp is plenty to get you into trouble. If I ever want a little more excitement, I just turn the nannies off and get sideways!!! Both are awesome cars in their own right and you'll love either. Everyone that has ridden with me always leave with a big smile on their face.

I started out in a 14 Sting Ray. Test drover a 17GS and I was sold. As far as the question goes.... I have to say yes and no. When I am on the street sometimes I wish I had the strait line pedal mashing horse power to use then when I am the track I feel no need for a Z06. All said, I am very happy with my GS. Mostly care about track performance not drag strip style performance.

I could afford the Z but knew I wouldn't be tracking the car.
After attending Spring Mountain and experiencing the capabilities of the Grand Sport I knew it was enough car for me.
No regrets whatsoever!

I have had 2 Z06's and 2 GS's...…. other than satisfying the EGO thing, I found the GS to be much more fun for "everyday" driving...… the Z06 power can be an issue pulling out into traffic having to "baby" the throttle so as not to fish tail (or more embarrassing, SPIN) on exit. It just doesn't make any sense to me to pay all of the extra money for function you will rarely / never use...…. the cars look identical! The 460 hp is more than ample and there isn't too much out there that will mess with you. HOWEVER..... I have to admit that owning the Z06's WAS a blast and if money isn't an issue I would take the best available option I could find from one of the 3 top dealers,

I love my GS but would drop it like a hot plutonium turd for a Z06. Just wasn't in my range and I'm good.
I'd also drop that Z for a ZR1
I'd drop that ZR1 for a 650S
I'd drop that 650S for a 720
I'd drop that 720 for a P1
10 goto 10

I only wanted the GS, and am quite happy with my decision. But here's the thing. If you buy less than you want you will never be happy with the car. You will always be second guessing yourself when driving the car, and will not be able to enjoy it to it's fullest. Get what you want, life's just too damn short.

My situation on winding up with a GS is a bit different. My plans for several years was for a 2LT Stingray as a retirement gift to myself. While I liked the looks of the Grand Sport, my plan was to pay cash and remain debt free. Well those plans went out the door one day while I was out of state on a business trip. I had a few hours to kill and stopped in at a local dealer. Well they had a GS on the show room floor and pulled it out in the sunlight for me to see and when the sun hit that metallic flake, I was sold. Not only that, they made me an offer I couldn't pass up. Since it was a few thousand more than I had saved up for, I called my mom to ask if I could take a couple if grand out if one of her accounts that I'm a signer on, with the intentions of paying it back. However when she wired the money, she wired the full amount of the car with a note that said Happy Retirement! I do realize that I could have then upgraded and paid the difference myself, but honestly, the Hp that the GS offers is way more than enough for me. This is my 7th Corvette, with the others being late C3's and early C4's, so the Hp I have now is double what I had then...makes me grin everytime I get into it. So no matter which one you decide on, I think you'll have the same grin every time you get into it and press that start button. Good luck and have fun with it.

No. I track mine and the Z06 is a headache on the track and too much power for anyone who isn't a pro driver. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have any of them. GS pretty much serves no purpose as I have two dedicated track cars and a beater I take to work.
edit: I wonder what mine is worth with 16k miles. I kinda wanna sell it and get a Tahoe or something.

I've tracked my GS 12 times and frankly it's more power than I can handle. But it sounds like you won't be able to get it out of your mind about just having more hp so I'd say get the Z06 & put your mind at ease. You can always save in other ways to build your savings back up. And you won't be haunted by "what if" anymore.

For me, my C6 Grand Sport was never enough. I enjoyed the car, but I had to supercharge it to make it fun for me, and it still wasn't enough (was limited by the stock motor with how much boost/power I could safely get out of it). I'm pretty much a horsepower junkie, yet I "endured" the GS for 7 years LOL!. I just got rid of it 3 weeks ago and have an order in for a 2019 Z. I am nearly 100% certain that with just a few simple mods, the new Z will put a smile on my face.
Go with your gut; get whatever YOU will be comfortable with. As other's have said, life is too short. Carpe diem.........

Get what you want, but unless you drag race, when will you use the extra hp the z06 offers? And if you want the most HP possible in a vette, the z06 isn't the right choice anymore either...
For me the GS has been more than enough 100% of the time I've owned it as I only drive it on the street and I'm not drag racing dodge demons. I bought the GS over the stingray based almost entirely on looks as I prefer the wide body appearance. So for me, the GS was the right choice and I have zero regrets. If I was chasing horsepower, and I had purchased the Z06, I'd regret not getting the ZR1 (although that rear spoiler ruins that version for me...).
But as others said, whatever version you choose, you're going to have a great car.

Meh, while I don't have or want a Z06, the extra power on the street would be a ton of fun (hence why I want to build a supercharged Tahoe)

It's so damn fast. Any speed that won't kill someone or land your car in a tow yard comes up before you've had a chance to enjoy it. While it's a riot to do 0-60 before the passenger has time to inhale enough oxygen to scream "enough", 460hp is plenty.
I love having a Z06, but I wouldn't regret having a GS.
