ZO6 owners - do you wish you had bought the GS?

If they made a Prius that looked just like a C7 Z06 I probably would...again, I purchased the Z more for looks than the extra HP. The HP increase was secondary to the overall look of car. We first saw the Stingray in person at a local casino back in 2014 and we decided to get one. When we got aroung to actually getting one, the Z was out and we liked the overall look more. If I liked the new ZR1 better I would have one but I still prefer the overall look of the Z06. Its not like the new ZR1 is anything new in HP, that was available with the Calloway package all along.

Hey Larry, I have a '68 with a 540 in it, dyno'd at 742 crank HP. I'm also in the northern Detroit suburbs. Maybe we can get together and compare big BBC C3's. My (warm weather) daily driver is a C7 Z51 so you got me there. I do drive it down to Florida sometimes though as my parents and siblings have relocated there.
Sounds like a plan to me!!! It would be interesting to see how my obviously much milder 540 compares with yours. Mine is a World products motor originally rated at 650 hp, but subsequently dyno-tuned by Livernois Motorsports, adding about another 25 horses. In that configuration, with a TCI Turbo 400 trans, 3.70 gears, and 275 60R 15 drag radials, it would demonstrate violent yaw, fishtailing with great gusto through 1st and 2nd gears all the way up to 90 mph. Sometime thereafter, I replaced the Holley Dominator carb with a 1000 cfm 4150 HP model, probably losing around 30 hp in the process. Experimentation with tire pressures, however, revealed that so configured, it would dead hook with 16 psi in the rear tires. It was turning the tires on the wheels with every such launch, though, so I recently had the tires pinned to the rear wheels, along with some additional tuning to the 4150 carb. I don't know if it will still hook after the latter, as I've only had the chance to test it with a full throttle downshift from high to second gear, which was very impressive to me (it literally felt like one second, you were going 42 mph in high, and before the next second had elapsed, you were doing 85+ in second), so I really don't know if it will still hook.
I would truly love to get together with you and compare notes. Can you send me an email so that we might compare notes and exchange phone numbers? I'm a newbie to this great forum--is that permissible?
Highest regards,
Larry

No, I considered it for a year or so. I love the GS but now that I have the Z I could not imagine not having the power. Even if you have to modulate in places to maintain grip there is always more there. Incredible car. Love it.

No way! Looks and power to match
BTW, I’m still waiting to see links to the many many posts of those who regret buying a Z06 as someone on here persistently claims

If the GS would run on 87 octane, the combination of savings from fuel, insurance, and, purchase price likely would have been enough to buy the GS instead of the Z06.
Even after 2.5 years in my Z06, I still feel like a cheetah that escaped from the city zoo.

I was surprised to hear that there was only a $40 difference in insurance compared to a Stingray. Not sure about a GS, but I didn’t argue... Active rev matching and my Corsas killed my gas mileage

I was in a similar dilemma earlier today as I was considering the move to the GS or Z06. My reasons for picking GS over Z06:
- I don't race
- I don't track
- Here in Canada, road laws are strict. There's nowhere for me to use the extra 200hp to 100 kmph
- Both had the wide body I liked
- Definitely prefer the GS wheels to the Z06 wheels
- Prefer the GS side vent to the Z06 side vent
- Lower Insurance
- Cheaper by about 18k here in Canada
I'm leaning towards the GS for all these reasons. Quite simply, sure it's nice to have the power available but if I'm going to be using it ever so rarely, it's not worth it.

I was actually planning on buying a new factory order 2019 GS in the spring but happened to find an amazing deal on a lightly used Z06 (2,700 miles on it) and I jumped on it.
No regrets.

I tried trading my '14 C7, Z51, 7M for a GS last summer but could never work a deal locally or online. I thought it would be the perfect track car as the '09 Z I traded in on the '14 was such a blast at the track and well planted. Then last August I found a new '17 Z, 3LZ, 7M and the price and trade in value I received made it a no brainer. I can't wait to get it on the track this summer and am planning another trip out to the Ron Fellows School in the next few months. No regrets here.
