Default Z51 gloss black rim damaged

I hit my Z51 rim on a curb going about 15-20 mph, such a stupid mistake. I’m hoping for some guidance and figured this was the best place to ask.

Im in the Orlando, FL area, and I took the car to Dr.Rim repair today. They quoted me at $200 and said they’d have to keep it for a week since the rim is powder coated. At this point I’m honestly considering just bringing it to the dealership and paying for a new rim.

What would the folks here suggest? For now I’m going to search the for-sale section on the forum to see if anyone is selling a Z51 rim (rear). Thanks in advance for the help!!

C7 wheels are painted not powder coated. and you will need a new tire because of the damage.

Ah okay, thanks for the heads up. If that’s the case I shouldn’t need to leave it for an entire week. The shop insisted that the rim was powder coated, and he mentioned that normal paint wouldn’t match up properly.

Yep, I definitely need a new tire! Lost a good chunk out of it. Luckily it was time for new tires anyway, the rears tend to go pretty fast for me lol.

I've never seen lug barrels in raw aluminum on black wheels. Is that a modification to the wheel or how yours came?

Aren't OEM Z51 wheels around $3200 for 4 of them at Dealerships? Which means $800 each? If so - $200 for a repair sounds like the better deal if my numbers are accurate... Good Luck!

Since you have to replace the tires I would just go ahead and get a new wheel as well. Get the old damaged one repaired at your convenience and you will have a spare in case of another oops.

I had the chrome lug nuts swapped out for black ones.

I have chrome wheels but if I had the black wheels, switching to black lug nuts is a must have.

I'm not talking about the lug nuts, but the barrel where the lug nut attached the wheel to hub. Is it not painted inside there? Looks like a wire brush was used to remove the paint in the lug barrels. Actually I can see a bit of overspray in one of them.

This could have been a blessing in disguise, get them all powder coated and never deal with the paint coming off again.

I didn’t even notice that, I had the dealership change them which never works out. I’m planning on trading this car in a few months so I’d just be powder coating them for the next guy, otherwise I’d definitely do it.

A good repair facility can fix that wheel to where it is just like new. Certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

In that case... buy a tire and call it a day. Screw fixing the wheel, buy a touchup pen (carbon flash color) fill it in and trade away. The dealer can fix it if they want, that's all part of prepping a vehicle for resale for them.

Make sure the rim is straight too. A minor hit like that can tweak the rim and you wouldn’t see it.
