Who wants my Vette?
so Thanksgiving eve, I hit a deer. The car is still at the dealership, waiting for a steering wheel. After the last round of 'it will be in next week', I called GM customer service and
lodged a complaint. I also TRIED to trade my vette there but the dealership owner wants no part of it, except an offer to wholesale it for me. I see no reason why he could not trade with me, and when the part comes in, put it on his lot. The insurance bill was $16k and he is staying the accident reduced the value by $15k. I was willing for them to find me another vert and I would be there in 2 days with a check. He could have made any price at that point and I would have been there. I am so frustrated with this situation that I will never own another Chevrolet, regardless how this works out.

So, let me get this straight: YOU hit a deer. The Chevrolet dealership is fixing it. The steering wheel is the holdup. You're bitching about diminished value (duh). You're bitching because nobody wants to buy it. -Guess what?- That's how accidents work. You're lucky that the steering wheel is the only holdup. I was rear ended in September. Although slight, it still took 91days to fix everything. The holdup? Body panels from Corvette. Get over yourself - it's how it works and Chevrolet can't control your dealers repair process.

I would be pissed too. Very bad situation.
One thing...if the repair bill is $16K and diminished value (according to dealer) is $15K, then Bambi cost you $31K. Your insurance owes you more than just the $16. They should give you an extra $5K at least.

Two months to get a steering assembly is ridiculous!
I am sorry for you are in that situation. Good luck.

Are you putting in a claim to your insurance company for DIMINISHED VALUE (DM).? . You will be entitled to the $16K fix plus a check for $15K or whatever you and your company can agree on . The first response from you company will be NO. Keep after them, if necessary get an attorney to help. There is a lot of money at stake . DM is available in all states.

I also think it's silly that he's now saying he'll never own another Chevrolet again after this. These types of situations can literally happen with any single make of car.

You hit a deer and now are “willing” for dealership to take your car at pre-accident full value and perhaps buy another vette...about right? OK...good luck with all that!

I kind of agree with the OP. If the dealer says the accident and repair caused $15k in diminished value what does that say about their work? If it is that bad they sure should be willing to work a trade.

Y'all don't get diminished value. If it cost 15k to fix, it's not 15k of diminished value. You'll be lucky to get 10% of pre-collision value. It's called 17C formula. If you think it's worth more, you'll have to get an attorney and sue your own insurance company. They can drop you if you sue them (FYI).

Dude is frustrated. I get it. My X3 got hit on NYE by a drunk driver. Been in the shop ever since fighting his insurance company and waiting on M sport parts from BMW. No one's fault though, just is what it is.
Gonna have to deal with it better buddy.

Do you understand what diminished value means? It has nothing to do with the quality of the repair, it has to do with the lessened value of the car because it has been damaged & most likely will be reported to Carfax which will kill the resale value

What does the quality of repair have to do with the dealer's evaluation of worth? The car can be repaired to perfection but that won't stop some forum expert from Omaha tell the potential buyer in Miami that the car is nearly worthless because of the Carfax report without even seeing it!

She came down for dinner. Then I took the door off its hinges and put it in the garage for a week.

Many States have language in their insurance policy that precludes diminished value in first party claims, i.e., Collision/Comp coverages. A claim for diminished value usually only applies in third party liability claims. The OP’s case is a first party claim.

I understand the OP's frustration, but I don't think he should 'never buy a GM' again. And I can see why it upsets some die hard Corvette fans here when someone posts that.
It's not a GM problem, it s Corvette problem. If the OP was driving a Yukon, this post wouldn't exist and the OP would have had venison for Thanksgiving. Corvettes are fragile and take a lot of damage when protecting the occupants. Also, Corvette parts are harder to come by since they sell just a few each month and GM can't be expected to stock as many parts. We all need to accept these facts when you take ownership of one.

Sorry about the entire affair... but, if you think GM has the corner on functioning in this manner, well, I've got sad news for ya.

Understand your frustration but not buying another Chevrolet is kind of silly. You hit the deer.

Diminished value is not part of your policy, comp or collision. Sometimes this may come into play if a third party has caused an accident but good luck proving that. First you need to prove your car was not fixed properly then go about showing it lost value because of that. If you decide to wholesale a car that is on you. Time to repair has nothing to do with diminished value at all.
