Did you know there was a recall for the "Mechanical Trunk Release May Not Operate" Issue? See attached link.

??? How do they fix a mechanical problem with the release by reprogramming the liftgate control module? Doesn't seem to make any sense.

FWIW I have a Deltron battery tender, and use the connections under the hood. In viewing the pics of the OP's car location in his garage, I would think the under hood connections would be advisable.

I think the closing/latching mechanism may pull the trunk lid closed too tight (or too loose) and that keeps the key from working. I think the software change adjusts the tension on the closing/latching mechanism.

No you use the fob key then pull the door lever in the trunk !!! I one time had to use the fob key when the battery was dead !!! Wayne

I went with the key in trunk slot & shoot lock ez into it once in while
