Default 2019 GM “buyback”

I have searched here and on the interweb in general; cannot find this answer. Looking at a 2019 1LT manual that the dealer tells me, after a few days of negotiating, is a “GM buyback”. How can I..., or can I?..., get the straight scoop on why this car was a buyback, what the customer reported, and what repairs have been done?

Thanks in advance

See if the dealer can supply you with a GMVIS. It's the service history of the car.

I hope they are offering a much bigger discount then you can get from the dealer sponsors here for a brand new "fresh" 2019. I mean for a person to get a buyback they have gone thru "hell" at the dealership level for at least 30 days trying to get their car fixed. If it did get fixed they would not have bought it back!!!!

Thank you for that- I did ask for the service history, although I did not use that term. I have not received it yet. My concern is that I do not trust the dealer 100% since I think I should have had this info BEFORE I started making offers. Almost like they slipped it in after trying to get me hooked. So wondering how I get the verification that what they give me is correct, and/or a third party source that has less to gain with a sale of the car...

I would (and still may) walk away, but I feel it is worth it to get the facts verified, if possible, before a knee-jerk reaction.

Well actually no the price was good but not that good, however my offer will be adjusted accordingly! Just need the facts before I proceed. I don’t want a Lemon at any price.

My sister had a mid '80's Camaro bought back for rear end issues they could not fix. The same day it was delivered to the dealership and she picked up her check...... it was up on the spinner out front of the dealership for sale. They had done nothing to her car ..... caveat emptor

Are you sure you wanna chance the buyback on the current model year.?I wouldn’t chance it on a new car unless I wad getting a substantial saving I mean like 20% or more off MSRP..

As other said the database printout from the dealer will disclose it and the dealer should know the whole story.

I would take take a chance on a new 17 or a new 18 that’s been sitting on the lot for a while if the dealer can’t give you the info on the buyback and a substantial discount.

Just to be able to reply, what is MSRP on a 2019 1LT manual?

PM me the VIN and I'll run the VIS for you. We don't sell buy backs, but sometimes they are not that big of a deal. Also, what are the miles on the car?

Walk away and work with another dealer. Corvettes are overstocked right now sitting on dealer lots. There is no reason you cannot work a great deal for a non-buy back Corvette. Especially if you are in a colder climate state. Shop near the last day of the month. You will get your deal.

As the others have said, there are just so many Vettes out there - RUN AWAY. That smells of a Stealership to me. Maybe talk to one of the fine Forum Vendors instead.

Walk away from this. Your gut is telling you something is awry. Listen to it. You'll find a better deal on a better car down the road.

I've not paid attention to my instincts a couple of times in the past and not one of those times turned out in my favor. Imagine how you'll feel knowing your instincts warned you about the deal and went ahead with it anyway, and it turns into a $#!t-Show.

Buybacks are interesting. I have been involved in many for non GM manufacturer. They can be ok or not so much. Key is to find the reason. Naturally the title will be branded, so could very well be difficulty financing. The longer you keep it the less issue buyback matters. That all said 2019 should be generous discount, I would say 15% less than average.

If it were me, I would keep searching for a car. It would bother me that the fact the car is a buyback was not disclosed up front along with the reason for the buyback. With current Corvette inventory being so high, good deals should be available.

Thanks for the help bud. Not looking for one, this one landed my lap, and after a bit of negotiation I found this out. I want to see what the issue(s) are, then if it is a "Lemon" I will walk away.

But either way, thanks for the helpful input.

Paying cash so not worried about financing. But this input actually IS helpful. As you say- it seems the key is the reason, which is why I started this thread; thank you for guiding us back there. So many of these forums chime in with "why would you want to xxx", when the reason for the thread is to FIND OUT IF I WANT TO. I want to find out THE REASON the car was "bought back". Pretty simple.

Also the 15% from average is helpful; someone else said 20 from MSRP. If I find that I want the car, that is good stuff for negotiating. Thanks again.
