Default Brake pads

My sister has a 2017- Z 51 and she is sick and tired of brake dust on her black wheels. I have a '19 G.S with chrome wheels and purchased the car in Dec. and only have 150 miles but have seen the dreaded dust. What replacement pads do you recommend for both cars
Thanks,
Rich K ( 'Vette Ski

I put PowerStops on my GS. No dust (well, barely noticeable after 700 miles) and more than adequate street performance

Installed Powerstop Z26 pads on my 2015 z51. Cut down the brake dust dramatically, but stopping power seemed slightly diminished. Some people reported discolored rotors, but I didn't have that on my vette. I ordered Carbotech 1521's for my 2019 Grand Sport just to change it up. Reviewers report dramatic reduction in brake dust without reduction in braking power and no discoloration of rotors. The Carbotechs cost about three times as much as the Powerstop Z26's.

I used power stops on my Z51 and rotors turned an ugly rust color.

I use carbotech on my GS.

Either one will work for your sister, just comes down to taking a chance on rotor discoloration and/or budget.

PowerStop are awesome! Several of my club members have them and they literally have zero dust. I got their pads and rotors kit and can't wait to install them this spring.

For a high quality low dust performance street pad I would recommend the Carbotech 1521 100% made in the USA. Non-corrosive dust will not harm your wheels or paint. You can order on line at http://ampdautosport.com/brake-pads/corvette/ or call me at 216-780-8825. The part numbers you need are front CT1405 and rear CT1718 For the GS. The Z51 takes front CT1001 and CT1718 rear. Use promo code z28 at check out to receive your forum discount.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Bought Carbotech 1521's from Adam after one day of driving my '19 GS...Dust has been cut down dramatically...have only put a couple hundred miles on since the pad change but according to Carbotech it gets even better after a couple hundred miles have been put on them. Very satisfied!

Powerstop Z23 or Z26 pads. Identical friction compound, only the shims differ.

When I get around to changing mine I'm going to try the carbotechs. The factory pads create insane dust.

I appreciate the OP asking this question because it saves me from starting another thread. However, I have an additional question. For those who installed the Carbotech pads, did it increase the brake noise? I ask because when I installed low dust brake pads on my C5 they reduced the brake dust to almost nothing. But, every time I hit the brakes you could hear those rotors grinding. It wasn't a squeal from a loose pad, but a grinding noise and very noticeable. The only reason I didn't put the old OEM pads back in the car is, I traded it for my C7. Any help here greatly appreciated and thanks to the OP for starting this thread.

For those of you that did get brown rotors with Z26's and switched, did you have to sand the rotors or did the new pads take it away?
