No. They never obsolete old models, but rather have continuous upgrades. Enter your serial# on their website and they will tell you what has been added or upgraded since you bought yours, give you recommendations as to whether or not you need it, and give you an upgrade price. I have two V1s. Bought my first around 2002, and another one in 2009. Upgraded both of them once, I think, by sending them in. A brand new one came back in one case - they replaced the older one with a new unit at the quoted upgrade cost. I emailed once about an upgrade based on something I read - Valentine politely suggested that it was unnecessary and they didn't recommend it. I just checked both of mine and they say no upgrade needed. There are no features I've heard about on other detectors that make me want a different one. I've had ONE speeding ticket in almost 20 years - and my fault, I had the V1 turned off.
Whatever works best for you is what you should get, but as far as I am concerned, my two V1s have paid for themselves many time over. No reason for me to buy anything else. Great investment.
BTW, regardless of what detector you buy, I STRONGLY recommend some kind of mirror mount (I use a Blendmount) instead of suction cup mounts. Don't use them. Those are absolute invitations to thieves - even if you take them down, thieves will look for the telltale circles they leave behind.

Love it and installed on my Grand Sport. Don't need the 360 but if that is what is now available i'd get it. Very few false's so when i hear a beep I watch my speed.
Probably just take the current 6 old one for the C8. This is pic of my install:

C7 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
The one radar engineer just left Uniden and went to Radenso. He was the only radar developer for Uniden. Yes, R7 will be a great unit. I've always used Escort and run the 360c in my C7

I have had the escort max360c for a few months installed w blendmount/mirrortap. The blendmount is a no brainier but I installed it in my Audi because the vette is still napping. Will likely go w same set up in the Vette. Very happy w the Escort performance, very few false alerts and several saving alerts......................

Good timing on this thread as I am looking to get something with a bonus check and I haven't had a pig sniffer in years as the last one was just annoying to me. Uniden something or other. I guess tech has grown by leaps and bounds since then but my friend that used the V1 still has it going off about 90% of the time we are in the car so I wasn't sure it was even worth investing in yet. I take 2K road trips twice a year and drive daily so I need something that worn't annoy the hell out of me while going 8mph, in a 60, in town for over an hour every day. Thanks for the thread and those that posted about their ownership of various brands and the thoughts on them.

Try the escort, very few false alerts and you can set the volume to your preference so when it goes off its not like a siren

Or buy an Escort and the detector marks these locations for you automatically.

Everyone has "the best". My former Uniden DFR7 was as good as my R3 on KA! The DFR7 also beat my 360C on KA. I have sold the DFR7, and use the R3 in my Hyundai and 360c in Vette as it auto marks and I like the arrows.

You mean the one which is currently unavailable? Escort owners have enjoyed autolearn for years.
(Keep in mind the R7 will not have auto-lockout when released, it is only expected to be available with first the firmware update - perhaps in the summer of 2019.)
Uniden is also finally adding ambient light sensing.
I expect the R7 will be a fine unit when it is released and fully updated.
