Default #1 radar detector

Hello:
I'm new to the forum. I apologize if I am in the wrong section. What is the best radar detector available ?

Thanks,
Tim

You’ll probably get 3 brand responses. Escort, Valentine 1, and Uniden.
I use an Escort Max 360.

The correct answer depends on your personal expectations. All of them absolutely suck if you don't learn to use them properly.
Assuming you are going to master the device, then my vote is the Uniden r3 if highway travel is the primary use.

You'll get different opinions as mentioned. I recommend using Waze with a good radar detector is the best combination. Its transferable to different cars.

Even the latest V1 is old technology, that's what I use. But with others, I think its a matter of degrees difference. I have K40 integrated into one of my cars, and it's not better than Waze and a V1. A1 Priority is probably superior for laser, but is expensive and is hard wired and integrated.

I sold my ALP system.
I don't think you need laser jammers.

Right, until you get tagged by LIDAR and hit with a $300 ticket.
My TMG system just saved me from a very costly ticket this week.
I, for one, highly recommend a Laser Shifter.
I would also recommend the Valentine One detector with companion JBV1 app.

Obviously it's not impossible I could get hit w Lidar. The issue is when, where , and why you drive above the posted limit. Jammers dont add value to me because I only drive above the limit on the highway, and when traffic density permits. Lidar is used more in high density traffic within or around cities. Probably because of the line of sight requirement.

Im not going to upgrade. The arrows are more sales department gimmick in my opinion. I will say if something happened to my existing r3 then I probably would buy the r7.

Having used a Valentine 1 for years, and now also an Escort Max 360, the arrows can be extremely useful - knowing whether you are approaching radar or leaving it behind, etc. But they are not magic and only an additional tool.

"Best" is what works for you.

I will enjoy learning what others think of the Uniden R7 once it is available.

As I stated in another thread, I owned four V1s, one in each vehicle, for many years, until I got tired of the false signals, and discovered the Max 360. I have since replaced the V1s with the 360. However, just as Elk said, I too am curious to hear some reviews from guys when they start running the R7. I am alway looking for a "better mousetrap."

This is going to be the new king of detectors. You can preorder here. Looks like we get them early April.
