Default Where do you guys shift?

I was reading a post about CAGS and it made me wonder how everyone drives. If you are just regular commuting (ie not spirited or aggressive driving), at why RPM do people typically shift up to the next gear? And what RPM do you like to have the car be in while in a give gear?

Heres what I normally do. I have diasabled the 1st to 4th shift. 1stt to 2nd 20mph, 2nd to 3rd, 25, 3rd to 4th 35, 4th to 5th 45, 5th to 6th 60, 6th to 7th 70, I do drive slower in some gears once I get to that gear but I try to keep the rpms around 1500 if it goes lower I will downshift

I let each gear represent approx 10 MPH - that allows for a nice smooth shift (obviously this is not how I shift when punching it):

1st: 10 MPH
2nd: 20 MPH
3rd: 30 MPH
4th: 45 MPH
5th: 55 MPH
6th: 65 MPH
7th: 70 MPH

To be honest, no idea. I shift when the engine noise tells me to.

Even when just commuting or in traffic, I don't have any set pattern. I skip gears, shift early, shift late, it is all situational for me. If just cruising without many constraints and not being sporty, I tend to:

45mph 4th - 5th
55mph 5th - 6th
65mph 6th - 7th

But again, the fun and beauty of a manual is to select gears based on the situation, not some algorithm or pattern.

^^^ This. Nothing scientific about it... and varies greatly based on road conditions, traffic, engine load, etc.

Same here. I let the engine sound tell me what's going on, that's why I bought an M7 instead of a A6 or A8.

Depends on traffic and where. Sometimes 4-6k+ rpm

Depends on the location ( city/interstate ramp) and the speed limit of the road I'm on

I rarely shift before 2500-3k. It’s also fun to merge on the freeway in 2nd😄. It’s a toy and all about the fun.

That's what that stick in the middle is for? I've just been leaving it in the same one all the time. Who would have known...

Typically:
Shift out of 1st to 2nd at 20 to 25 mph,
Shift to 3nd at 30 to 35,
Shift to 4th at ~40 to 43
Shift to 5th at 50 and will stay in 5th as high at 75+ mph on our country rods when no traffic and as low as ~40 mph.
I may skip from 3rd directly to 5th

Hardly ever use 6th
Use 7th only on the Interstate

Most common downshift when turning is 5th to 3rd

Perhaps of interest, will shift from 7th to direct drive 4th for an exit ramp and to pass an 18 wheeler fast! If for passing, then right back directly to 7th.
