Preorder the Uniden R7?

I understand though that sometimes you are just curious where the hit is coming from.

Have the R3, best detector I have ever had, gave my Escorts to GoodWill. As far as the arrows, what difference does it make which direction it is as long as you are at or below the speed limit any time something is detected?

Arrows are your friend when you've a radar coming up on you from behind.
I still have my "in need of $300 update" V1 mounted and operating. When my R7 arrives, the V1 gets retired.

That's a good technique and will save you a lot of tickets. But not all.
Driving along one of the Interstates in GA, we came around a slight curve/hill, and saw four patrol cars in echelon on the shoulder. All using laser. As soon as the first patrol got a reading high enough for a ticket, he zoomed off and the next guy, who was also lasering everyone, could chase the next offender. Illinois State Police sometimes use one trooper on an overpass and multiple chase cars. You would need four rabbits to escape this trap, or a really good laser jammer.
Fortunately, this kind of coordination is unusual.

There is already a thread on the detector here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...il-2019-a.html
I pre ordered two, selling my R3 and V1 soon!
Here are the raw range tests between the V1, R1, R7, Redline, Pro M and cheap Whistler.

In the Army (waaaaay back 63-66) I was what was affectionately referred to as a scope dope, in other circles the term "spook" has cropped up but I played with electronic stuff and whether or not the "thing" you were involved with was left, right, front, or back was a very important piece of information. The arrows on the V1 sold me on their product. The lack of improvement of the product have allowed me to step away from my V1 and try the R7 with my ever needed (to me) arrows.

Fully agreed. I am eagerly awaiting user reports of the R7. I have been pleased with my Escort Max with arrows, but very willing to consider the R7.

Range is good, but selectivity is equally important. I'm still running a V1, now with the latest update. I did the update because the various safety systems in other cars were setting off the V1 so often that it became worthless. Now, it alerts on other cars very rarely.
Other "great" detectors have had problems with excessive falsing, the problems get solved eventually but it can be a real PITA until then.
I may buy a R7, but not until they've been on the road long enough to see how they work in the read world.

Here's some more preliminary testing between the R7, R3, Valentine one, Max 360 and Radenso Pro M

One of the comments... Was the V1 turned on for the test?

I'm considering selling my R3 for the R7 as well. From what I've read it has rear pickup as well whereas the R3 just picks up from the front. That is one of my biggest drawbacks of the R3. My Max 360 in the daily does both directions and is nice. I love the small size of the R3 tho, and hope the R7 uses the same mount. I'm tired of buying blendmounts. lol
