Default 2013 427 vs 2014 Stingray

After not having a sports car for about a year I am back in the market for a used Corvette (my third). Thinking 2013 427 or a 2014 or 2015 Stingray convertible. Aside from the better interior and technology in the C7,any thoughts?

Having made a similar decision a couple years back, here are my thoughts. If you want the engine, go with the 427. The LS7 is an awesome engine. It's got tons of torque, it's loud, and you know its there. If you want the full package and better interior, go with a C7. The difference in overall performance between the two when driven on the street is noticeable but not significant.

"Superior in every way"?

"Superior" like bigger on the outside but smaller on the inside, smaller trunk, less visibility, problematic A8, complicated controls, etc?

The C7 is a great car, and overall it's better than the C6. If someone stole our C7, we'd buy another C7 and not another C6. But anyone who thinks it's "superior in every way", has been drinking too much Koolaid. The C7 has more than it's share of "WTF were they thinking?" features.

However, the C7 is simple gorgeous design wise vs the Herbie look of the C6..

I posted in your C6 section thread. The C7 interior is not smaller based on published dimensions. However, it feels tighter due to the slightly higher belt line and the increased wrap around of the dash and console. The left side of the dash has a point that is annoying and I don't care for the grab handle thing in the console. I fit fine in the car at 6'3" 260, but would prefer it to feel more open.

This decision depends on how you want to use the car... the LS7 is the winner (when it's not dropping valves), but the C7 has a better chassis and interior. I would go drive them both and see which one you like better.

Thanks Billy346. Strictly street use, no track.

There are no incorrect choices here --- both cars are absolutely terrific offerings, and either is almost guaranteed to put a smile on your face that simply will not come off every time you push the start button.

Buy one, and don't look back !!!

I had 427 CE and loved it. Was first vert and wanted a coupe back so,got a c7. Had 3 C6 and the 427 was awesome.
Engine was amazing, most comfortable c6. Was a looker. I did have issues with power steering rack and vert top headliner tearing. None of these cars are without fault. Get was turns your screw.

I owned a C6 for two years, traded it on my C7 about two years ago, and I'd agree the newer car is significantly superior across the board. No question. And C6 was a great car. But the C7 raised the bar.

As much as I like the C7, in my opinion, the C6 427 will hold it's value a little bit better. There's something about the "427" that's very desirable. That said, I bought a C7 over a C6 427 ZR1 and if I had it to do over again, I'd do the same thing because the C7 has features the C6 doesn't have that I absolutely want.
BTW, before I'd buy a C6, LS7, I'd learn about the valve problems with these engines and include that in my decision process.

I would definitely go with the C7 Convertible. I had a C6 and honestly can not think of one thing that was better or I miss. The C7 is just simply a better Corvette in every way.

I can. Our C6 had:
Better visibility, especially to the sides/rear.
Exterior door handles for people with four fingers and a thumb.
Emergency release for gas door, in trunk.
Bulletproof A6.
More room for driver & passenger, despite what the GM specs claim.
Factory Nav that displayed the scale, did not black out the area around the car symbol, and had a mini compass instead of abbreviations.
Memory settings that adjusted the HUD for each driver.
Memory buttons you could tap and release, instead of having to hold until the seat etc reached their final position.
Etc Etc Etc. That's just a quick "off the top of my head" list, and there are many more items.
It's as if the people who designed the C7 were brilliant but had never driven a C6 and experienced how user-friendly the C6 is.

Overall, the C7 is a great car and better than the C6. We'd buy another C7 instead of another C6. But the C7 has some noticeable steps backwards in some areas.

I had the C6 Z06 2007 and now, a 2017 C7. The C6 feels roomier and is easier to get in and out.
I wonder if the C7 has advanced active handling which could save your ***. The C6 427 is a loaded gun, as awesome ride though.

The 427 is a looker. The only drawback, from my perspective, is the pricing is (at least in my area) at the level of a new or low mileage c7

“Complicated controls”? Like how exactly? I owned a C5, and several C6’s that I loved, but yes the C7 is superior in EVERY way. Hands down. Does the C7 have bugs, sure...but not disproportionate to any generation. Apples to Apples, I’d pick the C7 every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

You may disagree about the "complicated controls", but do you really think it's an improvement that the car is bigger on the outside but smaller on the inside? Do you actually prefer the reduced visibility and smaller trunk? Are you rejoicing over the people who have problems with their A8? Etc.

My point is that the C7 is indeed an excellent car, and overall better than the C6, but has a few issues that most folks would admit are not quite a nice as on the C6.

Jim , you are really glancing over the problems that the C6 had ... maybe u did not experence them but others did
The A6 was far from bulit proof , my god just read about shift flair that affected every GM vehicle that it was installed in , there was no cure just a bandaid of resetting the shift adapts, and seal issues ....

How about the terible charging system ..... let's go count the posts an that one...

Or how about the door pad that would just stop working or the starter seloinod that would burn up ....

And let's not forget the " service traction control" or "reduced power mode" messages and the thousands of reasons why you got that message that you would have to track down

And the technology that was so 2004 ... like the factory blue tooth , if u were lucky enough to have blue tooth and the Navigation that was stuck in the 80's
Wheel bearings...I could go on and on but my point is all cars have their issues and the C7 is light years ahead of the C6 in terms or quality and technology.... there is no comparison in ride quality between the two
It's like when you think of your old girl friend ...... you only remember the good times and never all the bad times lol lol. Just go look in the C6 forums now that the C6 is getting older ...

Dave
