Will there be a 2020 model year C7?
We're all aware that GM has mid-engine test mules roaming the highways, streets and test tracks as the new Corvette is deep into development. But there is one question that seems to come up from time to time. Will this be the end of the Corvette C7 generation or will there be at least one more model year? A case can be made for both.
The Case For Another Year:
1. There are rumors of problems with the ME car that may take considerable time to address, if they are true, causing a lengthy delay in launching the next generation.
2. There is legitimate concern that Corvette buyers still want a big V8 in the front in their Corvettes and won't buy the C8 in droves like they did the C7.
3. Corvette's major competitor, Porsche uses two platforms to fill out its compliment of high performance sports cars. There will never be a better time for Corvette to launch two platforms, one an ME the other an FE.
4. The original plan called for both the C7 and the ME to be manufactured at the same time as evidenced by the body panel manufacturer's plant expansion to support production of two GM sports cars.
5. The ME car doesn't have the storage space like the FE car has, thereby limiting it's utility value to prospective buyers.
The Case For Ending The C7 with the 2019 model year.
1. There are 9000 unsold, new C7s in dealers lots and this number will increase by the time the ME is announced. We don't need another year's production.
2. GM has never had more than one platform for the Corvette.
3. Supporting two platforms is more costly for development and production.
4. GM wants younger buyers for their halo sports car and want to break from the past.
5. Spy shots of the ME show the Stingray logo on the vert waterfall. It is almost certain GM will not support a C7 and a C8 Stingray.

I don't believe Bowling Green is done with the C7 as of yet, but of course might be wrong.

Something interesting.... when the Bash was announced on the NCM page, before registration was live, they mentioned "the 2020 Corvette" in the first paragraph and in the itinerary had "2020 Corvette on display". It has since been edited to remove any mention of "2020 Corvette" on the page.
Now it just says "Corvettes on display" and 2020 has been removed.

Only a little more than a month to the Bash. I was hopeful that the ME announcement would have happened by then or maybe even at the Bash, but not likely now. We will know more though, if they only have some 2019 C7's on display.... that would indicate no 2020 C7.

I’ll say the C7 will return for 2020, if perhaps for only a partial year run until the issues with the C8 are resolved.
It’s just a guess though and I could be surprised by a 2020 C8 offering.

I believe they may have a 2020 C7 for a short period of time, but the minute that the C8 hits the production line it'll be done.

Just the Facts
Not many C7s being sold. Recently on a major auto related website as one of the vehicles to linger longest on dealer's lots. Old news is just that. GM has to figure out the C8 issues and they will. Sounds as if dumbing the first year down HP wise might be in the offing. I wouldn't buy a 2020 C7. It would be worth 2018-2019 money from the first mile on the way home. Makes no sense to take that kind of hit.

Prediction: There WILL be a 2020 C7, albiet a short production run. I bet the 2020 will be an Aug to Jan run with the C8 starting prod in mid Dec, and a spring 2020 release as a 2021 model. Not certain if all the C7 models will be produced, though... ZR1 may end as a 2019 that is avail until mid-summer?

Summary after two days and 103 poll votes. Well over half of those voting think there will be a 2020 C7 Corvette. Some think there will be a limited number of models, i.e. some models will get dropped for 2020, some of those who voted for a continuation of the C7 think it will be dropped as soon as the ME car goes into production.
Less than 1/3 think the 2019 C7 is the final chapter.
A surprising 16% are only here for the beer.
I should have brought more beer!

There is no 2020 C7... we'd have heard about it by now. Gm is going staying quiet, will start to tease the C8 this summer (hopefully soon), then we wait for the car to be ready. A poster in C8 Gen who made 1 post said he worked for a supplier and said they were notified Start of Production was 12/2019. We shall see.
