Default Auto vs Manual

I'm sure this has been beaten to death but here goes. We are looking at a 2019 vert purchase. Our last 2 vettes were manual transmissions. For those that have gone to autos, do you have any regrets. Did you go back to a stick? Getting older and thinking ahead.

This BS that a real man must drive a manual is just that, BS. We use our Corvettes for long road trips, and of course the beautiful day cruise. I went from the manual in my '06 C6 to an auto in my my '07 C6, and didn't look back. Those long traffic jams that we always find on a road trip only confirmed that the auto was the right decision. Now, do I like driving a manual, you bet. I have one in DD Mustang GT, but that car will never go on a long road trip. It has nothing to do with the size of your ********* (forgive me Lisa ). It's about what you want. I suggest you drive an auto C7 before you decide. That's the only way for you to make the right decision for yourself.

Only you know your body and everyone ages differently. I’m 70 and my c7 and my DD are both sticks, unless I get an acute injury to my knee, ankle or foot, I can see me driving sticks 10 yrs from now.

Yes it’s been beaten to death. My recommendation is always go auto IF it’s even questionable. For the M7 guys there is NO other option.

I am a hardcore manual driver but I drove an A8 and fell in love with it for some reason. This forum gives a bad name to the A8 which still no failure rate info is really out on it but to me, I love the transmission more than anything and even if it failed I would keep putting one in.

43 years ago I bought a new C3 automatic transmission, because it was a great deal. I was looking for a 4-speed, but settled. I still regret that poor decision. Does that help you?

..I love my C7 convertible, M7!

Duh - on the C7, you best skip the auto - just look at the sticky at the top of the forum with all the A8 shudder problems and you will see why!

I've owned a lot of both auto and MN transmissions in my more than my 60 years of driving. Both my current cars are MN, but Ferrari didn't offer an automatic transmission in my model any way, so the point is moot in the F-car.

My C7 happened to be manual for the simple reason it had every thing on it I wanted. Had it been automatic I'd still have bought it... I've owned and driven auto tranny Corvettes off and on since 1990.... my C6 was auto...

For all those who decry the A8 - the vast percentage of people have ZERO problems with them. The vocal ones are the ones on this forum - yes, there have been A8 problems across various platforms - but not as many as that are happily driving the roads....

One friend, who lives in Arizona, took his A8 to Europe for a year. He's back now has more than 80K trouble free miles. The woman who lives next door to me has an A8 and drives regularly between Commerce, Texas, and a couple of places in North Carolina. She too has more than 80K trouble free miles on her A8.

I'd not hesitate for a second to go back into auto transmission - I'd likely use he paddles a lot - as I did on my C6 - but automatic?... sure, why not?

Yet another post that has the potential to affect A8 resale value - corvette wave to you brother!

Back in the starving college student days, my beloved seven year old '68 Camaro was stolen and I bought an automatic because it turned out to be the car I could afford... Every car since then has been a manual, with the C7 at the top of the performance and happiness heap. Life's a daily crap shoot, and in your later years if you don't get what you really like and enjoy, you've bypassed an opportunity to enjoy the time you have here...
Also, consider a manual trans as an anti-theft device as only a small fraction of under 50s can drive a stick...

If not incapable, then autos are for the uncoordinated, clueless, boring, lazy, betas. A man who drives a manual is a connoisseur of the road. A woman who drives a manual is a BOSS.

All four of my Corvettes have been manual transmissions, my thought being these vehicles are drivers cars meant to be driven the old fashioned way. In my opinion, an automatic transmission in a Corvette is akin to banging with a condom, your almost there, but not in the purist sense.
