So there's an upcoming recall on the electric power steering? (update)
At least that's what my latest report from OnStar says. Apparently, the EPS can give out, making steering very difficult.
No remedy as of yet, but it must be coming (soon, I hope).

How ironic!
I posted this only a couple of hours ago, and just now received an email from my dealer notifying me of "Recall Number: N182182 60 loss of power steering assist," and wondering if I would like to have them take care of it.
Strange timing, indeed, huh?
Anyway, I bought my 2017 Z06 out of state, so I won't be taking it back to the original dealership for the recall. I'll have it done at the local dealer, who has handled my oil changes, suspension upgrade, and torque converter flush.

This recall only affects a certain number of 2017 cars. No other MY affected, and not all 2017s

Correct, Foosh. Here's what it says . . .
Recall Description: General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2016 – 2018 model year Cadillac CTS and 2017 model year Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cadillac ATS vehicles. These vehicles may experience a loss of electric power steering (“EPS”) assist while driving. Loss of EPS assist may last an entire ignition cycle, but may return once the vehicle is restarted. Customers may experience this condition during subsequent ignition cycles.
Safety Risk Description: If power steering assist is lost, manual steering functionality is retained but would require increased steering effort, particularly at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Repair Description: Dealers will replace the power steering gear assembly.
Recall Status: INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE
Well, I guess the remedy is available, hence the notification I received from my dealer!

I called my dealership to schedule an appointment for the recall, but they said it was too early and GM has not issued to fix yet. This part of the recall puzzles me, though:
Repair Description: Dealers will replace the power steering gear assembly.
Recall Status: Incomplete. Remedy not yet available.
Strange - the "fix" is plainly described ("dealers will replace the power steering gear assembly"), but the "remedy (is) not yet available?"
Those two statements seem to conflict.
Does that possibly mean that GM knows how to fix it, but has not yet sent the parts and instructions to the service departments to take care of it? If so, why?
Seems like having your power steering go out is a dangerous flaw that needs to be repaired immediately before a serious accident or death occurs. Why the delay and why no urgency, GM?

If you are truly concerned about your safety until the issue is fixed, you could probably push GM hard enough that they'd give you a loaner car until the recall work is done. I know some people did this with the ignition switch recall that effected a bunch of GM models a few years back.

Looks like I'm going to be getting a new steering gear.
Which is good because mine went out about a half dozen times last week when the outside temp warmed into the 70's. It's a little annoying.
I haven't been notified yet, but I checked my VIN and I'm definitely covered. They just need to get the parts.

Just as a point of clarification: my recall letter came in the mail today. It states the Chevrolet Dealer will repair or replace the power steering gear assembly not just replace. We will see what happens when the parts are officially available.

Just received my official letter as well.
Parts are not available, so I just have to wait and wait and wait until GM/Chevy gets their act together for the fix.

Recall?

Could you send a copy of that email? I purchased a 2017 for my wife and the dealer will not deliver it until they were able to fix this recall. They wanted her trade it so bad that they gave us a loaner car. We have been waiting since 2/14? My email is whitrmc@comcast.net

Bhaugeberg - so far you are the only person who has experienced and posted the loss of electric power steering (EPS). Could you amplify what you experienced? Is the required steering force excessive, within reasonable limits ? Car still controllable in your opinion? Since I received the recall letter today (4/1/2019 which happens to be April Fool's Day) on my 2017 Grand Sport, I am curious as to what I might experience if the EPS go south on me. So far I've had no problems but not sure I like the idea of having the power steering gear assembly replaced (or repaired as per the recall letter. Thanks in advance.

Yes. Watch your mailbox. Or check your VIN with your Chevrolet dealer.
