Default Costco radar

It's been years since I bought a radar detector. So Costco has the Uniden DFR9 Radar Detector Bundle on sale for 259.95. What I'm looking for, is what am I giving up by nor going with the R3 Or will this one do the job.

Don't. Just don't.

Also note that this article is a couple of years old and the R3 firmware has improved much in the duration.

I recently sold my DFR7 and as I mentioned in a previous post, KA band was as good as my R3 and better than my Max 360C... I did the comparisons two at a time for several weeks. All so close so for that price you cant go wrong!

The usefulness of a radar detector has more to do with the user than the detector.

The R7 is shipping next week. There will be plenty of R3 detectors available in the classifieds for under $300.

Get the R3 (or R7 if you really want to splurge). I've had my R3 for about a year now and it's WAY better than any of the other detectors I've had (most recently Escort IX and Radenso XP), mainly because the Ka range is so much better and especially because it's way quieter than anything else (even compared with the Radenso, which was significantly quieter than the IX).

Short version..DFR7 is nice piece of electronics..had mine over a year...it's bad A$$...meaning if troupers are using radar...this will pick it up... miles down the road/around the bends No worries with this unit...

Noted:
However, it lacks an auto-learn function where the GPS automatically learns the false alerts in your city and mutes those coordinates. Instead, you manually mark the location by hitting the mark button.

How does Valentine rate amongst the R3/7 and others? I have used Valentines in the past but honestly have not had a detector in about 3 years.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

GPS auto-learn is over hyped by Escort. I've had it on multiple Escorts, but don't have it on my current Radenso XP (wife's car) and my R3. Both the XP & R3 without it are quieter than the last Escort I had with it. Manually marking spots with either the XP or R3 is easy, but I think I've marked a grand total of 4 in my normal driving. IMO GPS auto-learn was a bandaid for poor filtering on the Escort units, and the biggest issue with it is it does NOTHING to address BSM (blind spot monitoring), which seems to be Escort's Achilles heel.
