After years of rumors whether the C7 and C8 would both be produced concurrently it’s now official production of the C7 will end this summer.

Auction of Final Seventh Generation Corvette to Benefit Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation
Sale to help veterans and first responder families, pave way for Next Gen Corvette
2019-04-11NEW YORK — General Motors will auction the final production seventh generation Chevrolet Corvette this summer, with the proceeds benefiting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The announcement, along with confirmation of the Next Generation Corvette’s development, was made this evening by General Motors Chairman and CEO Mary Barra, who was honored at the foundation’s annual Footsteps to the Future Gala in New York.
“GM, GMC and Chevrolet support the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its commitment to injured and fallen military members, first responders and their families,” said Barra. “The sale of this iconic Corvette will help the foundation continue its good work, and pave the way for the Next Generation Corvette that we will introduce on July 18.”
The final seventh gen Corvette — a black 2019 Z06 model — will be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Northeast sale in Connecticut June 28. Registration information is available at www.barrett-jackson.com.
Every dollar of the winning bid will go to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, named for New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who died during the Sept. 11 attacks.
The foundation builds mortgage-free, accessible smart homes for the most catastrophically injured service members and helps pay off the mortgages for families of first responders killed in the line of duty. More information is available at www.tunnel2towers.org.
“The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation thanks GM, GMC and Chevrolet for supporting the brave men and women of our armed forces and our first responders,” said Frank Siller, chairman and CEO. “This generous gift will help us provide more injured veterans with the independence they deserve.”
For the past five years, GMC has supported the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation as its national foundation of choice. In that time, it has helped the foundation raise more than $10 million. That includes $2.2 million raised last year, with $925,000 of it coming from the auction of the first production 2019 Corvette ZR1. It was purchased by Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick at the 2018 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale sale.
Other money has come from employee donations and events across the country such as 5K Tunnel to Towers races and other activities sponsored by GMC dealers.
GM is committed to helping those who have given so much for their country. GM’s current and retired workforce includes 60,000 veterans.

It was a good run
A car good enough for me to take notice, set a goal to get it in 5 years (which now in hindsight isn't possible considering the announcement), and bought it in less than 3.

Damn, so the C7 will stop production after May or part way through June? I guess they will use the downtime to re-tool the factory for the C8. Wasn't expecting that. My incoming Z06 might be one of the last ones built.

In a way it's kind of cool. The C7 is the last of a generation. The last of the front engine, big V8 Corvettes. I'm good with that.

They often do not use the actual Corvette in a "first" or "last" Corvette auction because that particular car hasn't been built yet. That said, I bet production continues well beyond the ME reveal date and that the auction will simply produce the winning bid for the last Z06 once it has been built.

Great info thanks for sharing. It has been a good run for the C7 and I have mixed emotions awaiting the C8. On one hand I am excited about it and what it will bring to the table as far as looks, performance, options and of course cost. On the other hand I am feeling good that my 2019 Z06 M7 Convertible is the last year of as I call it the beast of a beauty.

I really hate to see it go, I hope this is a wise decision from GM. Hopefully it will not bite them in the ***. This is my first corvette and someday I hope to have a ZR1 C7. I'm not to crazy about the ME, maybe when I see one in person. Wow I think the C7 has been the best looking Corvette to date aside from the older 50's vette.

The KING is dead. So happy i have a C7 Z51 vert. Top down, it moves me from transportation to transmigration of my spirit to a higher level.
But i guess i should salute my future King...LONG LIVE THE JAGUAR F-SVR!

It was a good run for the C7. I just hope the C8 is successful in carrying on the Corvette tradition.

Took me over thirty years to buy a Corvette, love my C7 GS. So when I buy another one, it will be a C2 not a C8. Regardless of generation, those crossed flags will always turn my head.

Pretty cool they’re auctioning the last one off, though it would have been nice had they done something special to it. While the ME C8 looks interesting, it won’t be on my radar for many years. Not sure I’d touch a first year model anyway, hope GM has the kinks worked out for those that do.

Wow, this is the first time I've been correct in guessing what's going to happen. After much thought (with the wife's input also) I decided that the mid-engine car wasn't for me right now, and the C7 would not be built along side the C8. I just couldn't see where the plant would have that capability with the C8 being so different than the C7. So, I went ahead with the purchase of my '19 GS.

Hats off to those intrepid souls willing to buy a first model year of a brand new design. I couldn’t do that, even if they had a convertible with a stick...since there isn’t one, it seems, the C8 simply isn’t on my radar at all.
It sure will will be fun to watch and see how it does!
