Default Favorite Corvette Generation

Thanks to flynbulldog for his fun post, a poll to actually see YOUR favorite and compare.

It's a silly poll, but what would be interesting is if the poll was posted in every generation sub forum, I bet the result would be about the same. They vote for the one they have.

I did not vote for the C7 or my other car, a C3. Don't get me wrong, the C7 is the best driver ever, but I have always lusted after a C2. As my means increased, the prices on C2s went up proportionally so they have always seemed to be just a bit out of range. If I sold both of my other cars I could afford one, but then I would not have a road tripper.

Anyway, that is my vote.

Maybe Lisa, maybe. I still believe good design prevails and your statement will not hold up about every generation sub forum would vote on there's.. But feel free to do the polls!

I said C3. I think the 1969 to 1972 models were the best and would love to own one eventually. Of course, I own a C7 because it shares a similar hood profile but does not come with the need for constant repairs...

Having actually driven my friends 64 C2, (coupe, black/red, 50K miles, 327 with side pipes) I voted for the C7. The C2 just isn't a good car. it looks great, but it's not a good car. It wasn't well made when new, and now it's an old not well made car... The C7 is a GREAT car.

You are wrong about the C-2, I've owned two of them and they are great cars. Very well built for the day. Te C-3 is not a good car though, even though basically they are simply a re-bodied C-2. (at least early on). I will say, the 64 (what you drove) is the lessor of the C-2's.

The same can be said about the C3, but it was a different day and time back then and technology was very primitive. I have always wanted a 72 Corvette (I graduated in 1973, and this was my high school dream car) and now I own a very nice example. Since I have owned it, I have discovered a lot of "normal" issues that were built into these cars and was at the time acceptable. The styling was pretty amazing though and it at least somewhat timeless, as the C2 styling was. To me though, the first truly revolutionary Corvette technology wise was the C5. I owned a C4, but when I got my C5 the difference was like day and night. It was much faster and a much simpler car. It had like 2700 less parts (that could be a little off as I am depending on memory) than a C4. The C4 was a reliable car though and it was easy to work on the engine with the clamshell hood. Oh well, I will stop going on and on about old cars...

As I kid in the 70s the C3 was the first Corvette I saw... thus its my favorite. That curvy Make shark body is amazing. I'd love a resto-mod, C7 bits with C3 body. Never got into the C1 or C2, just not my thing. My brother had a C5 for a short period of time but I was never super impressed with it. The C7 was first Corvette that actually interested me enough to buy one. The previous generations just had those typical (aka terrible) GM interiors that were dreadful.

I'm not sure that only having driven your friend's 64 qualifies you to make such a broad statement as above. I've owned over a dozen C2s and they are great sportscars, ahead of their time and very well made.

I don't know why some can't just state their preference in these type threads without bashing others.

Probably someone who is into racing. They might remember that there is only one Corvette generation that went undefeated in its class and was retired from that class after winning 29 straight races. They were retired from that class because other brands were complaining they couldn't compete against the L 98 C4. Then there's the C4 ZR-1 that, in 1990, set 7 world FIA speed records. No, I didn't vote for the C4, just getting a little tired of Corvette Forum members looking down on the C4 while the truth is, it was an absolutely dominant car back in its day.

I'm 100% in agreement
I have owned 3 of them in the past including a 1970 LT1 convert - (1of 400), I now own a C7 Z06

My problem is that the C4 was my first Corvette and it was a nightmare POS. I've known many others with the same experience too. Yes it was good for it's time and a big leap forward in technology over the last C3, but in the history of all the Corvettes ever produced it's going to be mostly forgotten.

Because it's a poll asking for opinions? Come on Kevin, well made? Really? Now seriously, if you put an Art Morrison chassis under it, and some bigger wheels and tires, you have something. If you compare it to things of the period, it was a good car, but really a 10 year old Civic is a much better car...

I grew up seeing Sharks, not many C4s. I got into corvettes because a buddy of mine had a 74 and I loved it. So what I want is a nice chrome bumper Shark, but I have a C4 and C7.
