Default Ceramic coating

Hi guys, I just picked up my stingray 1 week ago. I am in talks with a guy in NJ who does ceramic coating with IGL KENZO (5 yr coat protection) or Quartz ( 2 yrs coating). I've never coated a car before and I don't know much about this type of coating. I've done some reading and youtube watching of others who have coated their cars. The price would be 375 for 2 yrs coat / 550 for the 5 yr coat. He said that most high end cars go with the more durable coating (5 yr). I've seen many videos on instagram his shop posts and I see Lambos, URUS, porsche, vettes, and other higher end cars he details and does coating on . I plan to get tints done by him and thats 225 for all around he said.

If anyone can offer any advice on whether this sounds like a good price? Type of coating? Tint price? I'm not as worried about the tint price to be honest but I've never had a car like this and I want to make sure I take care of it a long time. Thanks everyone!

To be blunt IGL is not the best, but not bad. The problem is if you end up having an issue will the detailer still be in business and will the company stand behind the product? I would look for someone that does the more mainstream products... Ceramic Pro, Kamikaze, CQ Quartz.

That price sounds like its just for the coating, how much is he charging for paint correction before the coating? That is the most important part of ceramic coating, all the work done before it gets put on... And if you think you do not need paint correction because you have a brand new car you would be wrong...

Having my '19 GS done with IGL Kenzo right now and picking it up tomorrow. Dealer handles other lines like CQ but recommended this. Time will tell. Price seems somewhat low so not sure there is a lot of paint correction going to happen there. My Sebring orange had one of the best factory paint jobs I've seen on a Corvette in quite some time and still has been in his shop for 3 days.

Thanks for feedback.

I spoke to a local place in NJ and they offered 250 bucks for tint and roughly 1200 dollars including the onestep paint correction with ceramic pro coating (5 yr warranty).

The first guy I mentioned in my post told me the paint correction would be 150 bucks extra to those 2 and 5 yrs coating prices which seems really legit.

What do you guys think?
Thx again.

Well if you consider things like when I purchased my C7 in Louisiana it had salt contaminates. I spent 3 days clay barring, color correcting, polish, wax, sealer, etc. etc tpo get it perfect.. it is a lot of work getting them perfect even new so the prep (which is most of the work) is where your spending the money not so much the coating.

Cquartz here, did it myself.

It's really not hard at all to do. My first was my black G8GTand it turned out just fine. Have done 35-40 now. If it's only a week old, prep ( which is the most important) will not be too bad.If it was on the lot for a while, it might need a little more. If it was delivered then probably not. 3M fine machine polish with a 3M blue pad on a DA will get you where you need to go, and with a DA you WILL NOT hurt your paint.

Just a thought.

I can only speak for myself. but years of doing shows with Bikes and cars.. I really do enjoy detailing...it takes hours to get to where you want, Some don't enjoy it or have the time in their life or maybe it is not a priority. If you enjoy it the journey is worth it

I live in South Jersey, not sure if you are looking for other shops or not but Oakes Detailing in PA is a very good detailer. Waiting on delivery of my Z06 right now but when i had my 2016 Mustang GT, they quoted me 9xx$ for a full paint correction and CQuarts coating. I plan on getting either expel or CQuartz from them when my vette arrives.

FWIW on my 2017, ZO6-he washed, detailed, clay barred it, then coated it with Gtenhniq. It has 9-year protection. He had the car for almost 5 days. The cost was $1000. He also took the wheels off and did them, and the engine compartment, and the interior. He said he cut the price down because I belonged to the local Corvette club.
The car still looks great, and still repels the rainwater! I had tried to do it myself, and it was a lot of work. For me, it was a better deal to pay for it!

No, you don't; however, remember how much you paid for the ceramic. Do you really want to put high pressure hose/soap on it? Recommend using a low pressure "pre soak" for the soap. Most rinses are high pressure, so rinse about 36" away. Spend some time with nice cheap (Costco) microfiber towels and wipe the car down. Open up every entry (hood, rear hatch, doors) and dry up the water. Total time: 25min

I would not go through an automatic car wash (touchless or not). The amount of pressure of touchless is pretty impressive and of course who knows what kinda ceramic-eating-chemicals they use.
