Default The Plot is now a bit less thick

Well, turns out the Sales Manager was not in the loop for the entire dealership.

Their body shop got hit for 6 cars, along with a number of other dealerships within their “Auto Row”.

So, additional calls were made, and the correction to my previous post has been now posted.

So I guess Nimnicht won't be calling the forum? I happen to personally know Ronnie W and he is a member of the Corvette Club with me in Jacksonville. Sounds like Nimnicht is trying to hush this up. I can't find it on any news outlets here in Jax and I've googled the hell out of this topic. I thought the JSO might be keeping it quiet while they investigate but no way this can hide forever.

Cars were taken, keys were taken and I hear power tools made it out the door too.

...and the car is still missing as of my last contact with Ronnie.

Correct on all counts.

I too searched for any details in the news media.

Zippo, Nada.

Hence, my call to the dealership, which got me misinformation.

Ronnie needs to post daily updates to add credibility and authenticity to this thread.

Other dealerships and their customers would certainly benefit.

Just basic details like a VIN number, license plate tag ID, was OnStar activated, a more concise description of the Corvette, etc. would be very helpful. The picture he posted fits the description of literally thousands of C7’s.

A build sheet would also be a great help.

On second thought, the original build sheet, or a Chevrolet dealer generated VIS document, would greatly assist law enforcement and the insurance companies involved.

These documents are the birth certificate and DNA of his stolen vehicle.

The National Corvette Museum is a great source for the original build sheet, if he does not already have that original document.

I'm not sure how those documents would assist law enforcement unless they find a C7 missing its VIN. I spent 10 years working Auto Theft. The reality is most law enforcement agencies spend very little time or resources trying to find stolen cars.

Default Agreed......but

I have always found that you give out as much info as possible, and let agencies push the delete button on what they don’t want to use or can’t use.

What is disconcerting here is that the original thread creator has never responded back to any of the almost 50 posts.

Credibility is earned.

The posters in this thread have shown an abundant interest in his issue. He is getting notified of each and every post to his thread. They have given many suggestions for the resolution to his issue. At least give them the courtesy of a response.

I am sure what you "have always found" is far more relevant than those who work auto theft for a living.

I don't think this is unusual. I have seen many threads on car forums where the OP never responds to thank the other members for the assistance and ideas provided. It seems that newbies are less likely to check back in than long time members. Not sure what is going on in this case.

I was speaking in the general terms of life, not specifically related to those who are in the auto theft recovery industry.

I like to be totally transparent, so that there are no misconceptions after the fact.

I always appreciate your insights, especially coming from your decades experience in the auto dealership arena.

I got educated on the term “bailment for mutual benefit” today, thanks to jallen4!

To that end, I will always clear out the entire interior of my car before taking it into the dealership for service. The responsibility rests entirely with me, not the dealership.

Just the inquisitiveness of a woman at work here.

Must have been a slow day in the neighborhood here in AZ.!

I’ve been a police officer for almost 17 years for n a town of 120k people. Most auto thefts we have are all locals that joyride in the cars. Most are found by license plate checks so none the asked for documents will help. If it’s dumped somewhere and there are no plates or the plates don’t match that’s when the vin check comes in. That will already be flagged in ncic

Amen, 37 years as a LEO, this car is no different than any other. Enter the info into LEIN and NCIC and wait for a hit.

How heartbreaking. Seems their insurance company should cover it. Though that doesn't ease the pain of it all. Let us know how it turns out.

Good question, I don’t know. The truck was eight or nine years old at the time so it may not have had full coverage insurance.

Poor guy gets his car stolen and someone actually calls the dealership to verify an internet forum posting? Get a life.

Why wouldn't the dealership call onstar immediately after finding the thefts? The cars were on their watch when this happened

no way would I ever leave my car at Nimnich. My last oil change there taught me to never go back there. My salesman, Howard Roberts, is a straight up guy who got me a good deal. But I found the service department to be less than honest.
