Are you all activating Chevy On star after trial period and why doesnt it come free with the car, this is too expensive?

It depends on what you want from OnStar. They will provide mileage updates to some insurance companies for discounts as part of the free plan and that's all I use. Easy to keep my low mileage 15% discount that way. It looks like they changed to the $14.95/mo plan to allow you to keep using the app for remote keyfob which is a bummer because that was a cool feature on what used to be the basic plan which was free. They are way too proud of that accident and nav package though, you are 100% right.

It all got a bit confusing on the phone with them for the 100th time. But from what I understand my package is $24 ish a month, I get the diagnostic reports... and the security functions where they can track and stop my car of stolen!
i think I don’t get the crash alert but and the press a button to get directions. Instead I can get the directions through an app. But, I have an iPhone and car play so don’t need that anyway...

Too many GM cars and trucks to pay the insane price, if it was reasonable I would be in, even XM that is a rip off with enough cars you get it for 5 dollars a month, that's reasonable.

What you get with the car is the full boat OnStar plan. The first thing you have to realize is you don't have to choose the most expensive plan. I have the protection plan and it provides the automatic crash response, road side service, the ability to use the OnStar cell phone (if you want to purchase minutes) and diagnostics. It doesn't have directions. Cost is about $200/yr for non discount purchasers. With a discount you can get it for about $160/yr. I have it for the automatic crash response which I believe can be a life saver especially in areas where there is no cell phone service (more areas than you think). I have this plan on my 15Z, my 15 GMC Terrain and my 2003 Tahoe and renew each one each year. OnStar helped when I had a flat on my Tahoe while towing the Vette to the track. The Tahoe spare got hung up on storage mechanism and wouldn't release from the bottom of the vehicle. OnStar got ride service there and all it took was a single push of a button. With my 2008 Malibu we were traveling in western NY late at night and which required road side service. We were in a rest area with no towns near by. One push on the button got a guy out of bed in a town about 20 miles away, he called us, told us how long it would take to get to there and fixed our problem. No charge for any of those services. Also almost impossible to get with a cell phone since there is no directory to tell you who to call.

I find it annoying that every few months, I get a verbal message from Onstar saying I have limited services. Ugh

I agree. If I were going to get On Star, this is the plan I would get. At least it's reasonably affordable.

My question is it should be free along with the car warranty like other manufacturers BMW, Audi, Acura etc. They all provided these services free with the bumper to bumper warranty

It should be. My Audi S5 had 5 year free maintenance.

I don't subscribe to OnStar and it doesn't cost me a dime to get their monthly "diagnostics report" at no extra charge.-- but I have navigation in my cell phone and an unlimited data plan.....which makes OnStar unnecessary for me. However, I know it is a worthy purchase for other people.
