I have a 2014 C7 Convertible. When closing the convertible top, the process was about 3/4 complete when it stopped working with the tonneau cover still up. A buddy and I managed to close the top which closed easily.
However, the DIC display now shows, "ONLY MANUAL OPERATION OF TOP POSSIBLE" and the pressing the switch to (open and close the top) on the instrument panel, it still does not work as I get the same message mentioned.
In reading the manual, I shut off the car and retried and have same problem and message. Plus I cannot open the trunk either. The trunk has things I need, and more importantly, is where the fuse box for the convertible top solenoid is located which I can't check.
This same thing happened to my'05 Vert. That got the top cycled, and home. Replaced the battery, which was the actual issue. As it's been said, the battery has been known to cause wonky behaviour when failing.
Make sure the trunk's folded top protection panel is securely seated on it's mounting posts. With the trunk open, looking to the back where the top folds into. the panel is upright and facing you. About 6-8" tall covered in the same gray material as the trunk. It is secured with grommets that seat onto mounting posts. If one or more are loose, the top doesn't work. The sensors thinks something is in the way. The panel can get dislodged from the posts when you take stuff out, put stuff in the trunk. Find the grommets and push each one firmly don't just look at them. The post and grommet complete a circuit. Easy to get dislodged if you use the trunk a lot.

That scenario should give a message on the DIC "ATTACH TRUNK PARTITION TO OPERATE TOP."
The issue with my power top not working is due to a malfunction in one of the sensors. This was discovered by Flemington Chevrolet (NJ) service dept as I no longer can deal with my local Bridgewater Chevy dealer since their service dept is awful despite my buying 6 new vehicles from them!
Fortunately I have an GM extended warranty and my cost is only $100. for the replacement of the sensor.
I did ask them to to look into manually locking the top in place should this happen again as nobody seems to know how to do this.
I literally just had this happen today to me. I am confused though. Are they saying change the car battery or the remote battery. My car is a 2019 and I only have 13k on it. I couldnt get my top to close and it told me it needed to be done manually, which I don't know how to do.
Get a cheapo code-reader (about any auto parts store) and see if there are any set codes you can "erase." Also, consider unhooking the car battery, carefully, for at least 30-seconds and reattach. Sometimes rolling "'puters" need rebooting, too. May not work, but both are simple, quick, and easy. All the best.
Not sure what the trunk top protection cover is????
When you open the trunk, there is a flat carpet covered piece on the foreword part of the trunk. It has a grommet on the top of each corner.
You can unsnap the partition and lay it flat. However, if it is not attached firmly, the top will not operate, and you may not be able to open the trunk without using the key. This will happen if the trunk is not fully cycled up or down.

Yes I understand now and yes I found that grommet on both sides but only the right side has the micro switch. Still no resolution.

After waiting a day, its the same problem.
Does anyone have ideas?
I find this all very frustrating. Taking to dealer on Thursday and will let you all know what they discovered and what they charged me!!
