Default Gas smell

I noticed this morning a strong smell of gas near the rear of the car. Nothing on floor. I remember my C6 had a bad vapor canister that caused the same thing but that was inside the car. Any usual suspects that anybody knows of.

What year is your car? Did you recently fill gas and overfill?

It may be related to a recall of the fuel tank pump flange that was communicated last year. They extended the warranty for that specific case.

“To see if your 2014-2017 Corvette is one of those with the potential issue, you can check your vehicle at my.chevrolet.com or call Chevrolet customer assistance (with VIN in hand) at 800-222-1020 to see if your Corvette has the new supplemental “Special Coverage #17469” “

Sorry to hear about this. I hope the fix goes smoothly for you. Please keep us updated on the details of the repair. I understand it is quite involved.

The reason I am so interested is because my 2014 is on the list and has the 10 year extended coverage for the fix. I hope it never has to be done, but that's the way it is.

Best of luck to you!

Don't visit your dealer while the flange repair is performed. The disassembly is massive. I about puked when I saw mine.

I saw the carnage when my C6 had the tanks removed and just about everything BUT the tanks themselves had to be replaced. Not fun to watch. I'm hoping it's not that but since I paid ovr 3K for the C6, this will be a nice relief.

Not off to a great start with 'this new to you' Corvette! Hope warranty covers the issue. Have them check that "rough idle" while the car's there. Hope it works out for ya.

My thoughts exactly. It probably would have been a good idea to look over and recalls and special bulletins beforehand and see if the work was done on my vehicle but what the heck, life itself is a gamble right? I survived a heart attach 2 years ago......I'll survive this....

Anybody know if this comes with a loaner vehicle since it takes so long?

Good luck - hope the dealer takes good care of your car and quickly makes the repair.

Just dropped it off at the dealer. They need to do a smoke test to confirm it is the fuel pump flange. If they have the parts in stock, and from my reading of the SB they may not, they will provide a rental vehicle for 3 days. If not, I will reschedule as early as possible, get the rental for work and pick it up when complete. I know dropping the gas tank is a bear of a job. I just hope they've improved the crossover fuel lines on the C7. My C6, they were brittle and had to be replaced along with the crossover tube. But that was when both tanks had to be dropped. I will update when it's all done.

I appreciate everyone's support and valuable input.

You might call the dealer and request a loaner instead of just asking when you get there.

I requested and got a loaner when I scheduled the fuel filler grid replacement and windshield washer tank replacement.

They will provide a loaner once the repair starts. I only live 3 miles away so their shuttle driver brought me home and will pick me up when it's time to go back.

So I made an appointment for Tuesday morning. Drop the car off and called around 3pm to see if they had any news.....hadn't even brought it in yet. Called Yesterday and at 4pm they finally put it on the lift. I get a call from the service adviser that their tech found no leak. The smell was so bad in my garage that I was afraid to even create an ignition spark until I aired it out. I'm not sure what the UEL of 93 octane gas is but I had to be pretty close. I will pick the car up tomorrow morning and see if the smell returns this weekend. If it does I'll bring it back to the selling dealer Rick Hendrick Chevy. I have a feeling they just didn't want to deal with such a labor intensive repair. They claim to have 2 corvette techs available but the most vettes on their lot at any one time is 3 or 4. Rick Hendrick has 30+ Probably should have gone there in the first place.

I have had the strong smell of gas twice. Once last August soon after I had filled up driving across the Nevada desert. It was 107 degrees outside. I opened the windows then stopped to look under the car which revealed no gas on the ground. We drove off and the smell of gas was gone and did not return.

On Father’s Day while driving with my daughter on our way to a Father’s Day breakfast a very strong smell of gas filled the car which was very unnerving. While stopped at the light we rolled down the windows and within a minute the smell was gone. As I turned left I looked at the ground, no gas. The tank was only 1/3rd filled.

Yet to smell any gas fumes in the closed garage so don’t know what the means?
