2019 C7 Grand Sport or Base C8
Hello all. New to the C7 section but frequent visitor to C5 section. Sold my supercharged C5 after 14 years last week. I have a deposit on a 19 C7 GS 2LT with some nice options getting built this week, getting about 20% off MSRP with loyalty incentive included. I can get a entry level C8 for close to the same price if the price estimates are correct, 62K-70K. I know I have to make the final decision, but looking for opinions from those who own C7's. Nicely loaded C7 Grand Sport M7, or entry level C8 auto.

Hard to pass up a known product for one that may have teething problems in its first year, especially with the deal you are getting on the C7. JMO.

Truly hard to compare two things when one is unknown. But I’m with Jack, go with what you know.

From your history you were quite content to bypass the C6 gen and the C7 gen, right up to the month before the c7 is kaput. You don't share why you have this sudden urge to buy now what has been on the street for 6 years. The day after the C8 is announced, the C7 will still be around, it's not like they are going to send all the unsold ones to the scrapper.
You may have the biggest buyer's remorse on this planet the day Chevrolet lets their paid (by advertising) shills tell you the C8 is the most perfect sports car in the world. No other maker has ever provided so much performance for so little money. it eats volkswagen beetles for breakfast, Fieros for lunch and Boxsters for a mid afternoon snack. Volkswagen stock drops $6/share from reports of Porsche sales declines the day the C8 hits the showroom. McClaren Senna drivers sweat at the site of a C8 appearing on the track, (well most of that is due to the fact that the Senna saved 15kg by not installing A/C, but you know it sounds good in a C8 shill piece) blah blah blah, etc etc etc.
You are not afraid to mod, Chevy is quite proud to announce they have another sealed box for the C8 to keep it out of the hands of the tuners forever, yeah, right
But all is just a guess now, darts thrown on the dartboard.
Two Forums: C7 and C8. Ask in both places, count the number of replies, the forum with the most votes, get that car.
That is what i would say, but you indicate you have skin in the game for a new C7 by way of a deposit. Ready to walk on that? well, do so, you wouldn't ask the question if that wasn't the case. Buy that C8 and flip it faster than a McDonalds burger before the newness wears off, you'll just make a little less than the guy that held his powder for a pure C8 order. There's also a bridge in Brooklyn to consider that many have made a quick buck off of over the years.

You might want to look into the C8 electrical issues. GM is introducing an entirely new electronics system in the C8. Even if it was a FE motor, had manual and had a vert available, that one factor, all new electrical systems would be enough for me to wait at least one year, probably two. Add in the all new design, I'd wait a couple years.

You should have waited, C8 reveal is just a month away and you can then decide there will be a lot of new C7 to choose from if the C8 disappoints

In 1 month you will be able to make an informed decision. Right now it's anyone's guess and even after the reveal there will still be unknowns, price being one significant factor. I picked up my C7 last year and don't regret it one bit. Personally not willing to pay MSRP for the new car and I can wait to see how everything shakes out. The 19 you have on order is a completely known quantity at a really good price. Those two things alone would make my decision for me. If the C8 turns out to be your ultimate dream car just sell the C7 and buy when dealers begin to discount them.

GM can't win.... everyone bitching they're dragging this out, and folks in here saying it's rushed to market. They've been building the Mid-Engine car since the development of the C7 started.... they wanted to make that car the mid-engine. We saw the first Holden bodied test mule in January 2015 so it's nearly 4.5 years of working on the car. I don't think this car is rushed to market.
Will it be perfect? I don't expect so.... but will it be revolutionary? Yes, I expect so. There is nothing else out there with a V8, DCT, and mid-engine for under $70,000. It'll be in a market space all it's own.

Get the C7 and drive it for three years then order the updated C8 at a discounted price. Why pay full Msrp for basically a prototype base car?

Exactly what I was hoping for with this thread, "food for thought". Still leaning towards the C7, never been one who needs the latest and greatest. Held onto my C5 for 14 years, no regrets. I don't lose my deposit on the C7, I can simply put it to a C8 instead.

I wouldn’t buy a new C7 now, the price are going to drop soon. If I didn’t have a corvette right now. I would buy a used C7 that I could drive now and sell later when I was ready to buy a C8.
