Default What happen to this tire?

Got about 17k.on it.Looks like something was hanging and rubbing in one spot. The inner edge before groove seems to have meat.

Too much negative camber, pretty common wear pattern.

Oh yeah babe. That's the reason I took my GS in for an alignment last week (1K miles on the odo). My alignment was all over the place. The rear tires were at the limit for camber, and the right front was toed in nearly to the limit along with a ton of camber. The Tech said the tires were already showing signs of wear, but that it should even out with more miles on them.

Factory alignments are notoriously random. They only do a quick and crude check at the end of the assembly process before driving them away.

My Grand Sport was similar! My rears were set at -1.6 degrees negative camber. I had mine checked and set to what I specified. All on GM's dime at 450 miles. You need to put some miles on to get the bushing's "broken-in" and any "stress relieving" of all those frame welds that might occur! I made sure I went over a few RR tracks in that 450 miles!

Need to say more than check the alignment. Below is the GM spec. Note all C7's have a +/- 0.6 camber range. For my Grand Sport that meant it was within the Green, acceptable range at -1.6 degrees negative rear camber. It is within spec from -0.50 to -1.70. I only had one toe in the RED. The dealer tech could have spent 5 minutes and fixed the one toe and said, "All's fine." Instead he spent over 30 minutes getting each item at what I gave the service writer on a spend sheet (all within the GM spec.) If you don't want to specify ask that each be at centerline but give the value. I picked -0.8 for those wide rear tires and that is what I got. Consider asking for all toe's to be "0" as if you look at the allowed range "0" is within that.

I asked the dealer if they can align my vette.I was told yes.
Jerry,I will show them this post and feel out the Teck if this makes any
sense to him.
Thanks for the reply's..The tire had 2 nails in it also.
Probably should buy 2@ the miles i have But dame i hate too throw
good rubber out.$500 each at discount tire for rear 20's.
Will get aligned. Then maybe drive this till it blows.Adding air often.

You might find a tech who cares about cars and understands the issue! They do exist but for many it's a job and they watch football and basketball when they get home!

Actually Michelin only allows one nail repair and not within 1 1/2 or more from the outside. The Firestone Dealer in town says they are not allowed to fix a puncture if in the outer or inner tread. In the Grand Sport that is ~3 inches on the outside and ~2 on the inside! Discount Tire has a pic showing ~1 1/2 inches from inside and out.

I bought tire insurance from Discount Tire for ~$240 as soon as I got the Grand Sport. Did the same with the wife's 315 section width run flats on her BMW X5 SUV. It's 1 1/2 years old and have had a nail repair and a few months ago a nail in the other rear that was 1 inch from the outside. Got a $399 tire free. Her tire insurance was ~$180! Well worth it! Might consider buying tire insurance for the new ones.

Sad isn't.Probably better off with a independent that enjoys cars.I'll look up a couple.
Thanks for the reminder on the insurance

You should be able to find a good tire shop that will plug the tire, unless near the edge. Plug, drive it as it is until tire is worn out then buy a new set of tires and have real alignment shop do a professional wheel alignment. Most dealers will not do a proper alignment so just go to a proper alignment specialist. It's worth the extra $$. Just my two cents worth of course

After reading the alignment issues here, I feel very fortunate not to have any mentioned problems after almost 25k miles. Took the car to Discount Tire prior to driving to San Diego, and was advised the fronts would probably need replacement at around 25k The rears are OK. I'm going to see if there can be a pro-rated discount on the rears, as I'd like to replace all four at the same time.

I cropped up my photos. The canvas is showing only in a small area. Then after that a worn groove near edge.
All my other tires are equal.
This one being a right rear .Just seems to be bad only in the groove area.
What the hell did I balance on a 1/4" Wide rail then spun to hit canvas. It is Odd.That I see??

Wonder if this is defective.I can feel it being scalloped. Looks like it was underinflated. It wasn't.
Now this is my brandy new replacement.Their is hardy any where on my original compared to new.
Their ain't **** for rubber depth in the new.
My alignment might not be so bad compared to new.Original has 17k miles

I'm just replacing one.The way these slugs wear out.Plus getting nailed often.Nuts
Looks like the groove shape is slightly different from original.

Understand your frustration. Just a question: is the new tire exactly the same "model" as your current/old tire? I can't recall seeing a tire mfr. changed the design of the outside edges. Not that it's never happened, I just don't recall seeing that before.

I just looked at tirerack. Your first pics in post 1 look like some form of Super Sport ZP. The last photos look like Sport Cup 2. I'm just guessing tho.

You can leave the garage at 30lbs.cold or ambient temp. When tire gets up on temp.Pressure is over when driving.I have seen it up to 37 warm.
So where do you start at when 60 degrees in garage?
