Default Looking at a 2014 Z51 3LT

I had a 2014 3lt Blade Silver stingray. I bought it after the cheating wife left & after the divorce was final. Well instead of selling the house & splitting the equity I bought her out. The Stingray had to go. Well I miss that car and want another. I was hoping to buy a new 2019 but I don't think I will be able to get one before they are gone. I need more time to recover after the split. Anyway I found a 2014 3lt Z51 with the mag ride option and 46,000 miles on it. I haven't seen it in person yet, but the outside looks good in pictures, some wear on the drivers seat & center console lid is shiny. The interior is Brownstone microfiber suede, Laguna blue on the outside. The car looks like it has almost every option available that year.

I was wondering about the first year mag ride, not as refined as the later years? can it be reprogrammed? I'm not really interested in tracking the car but you never know. It will be a mostly daily driver. Should I run away from the 46k miles? I would buy an extended warranty I think. The dealer is asking $39K.

With all the garage queens out there competing with new vettes selling in the 40s, I would not touch a C7 with 46k miles.

I am in the belief there is no reason for a dude to get married...nothing really in it for us. so congrats on your divorce. Now, back to the important info..the corvette. I never like to have payments on a car that does not have a bumper to bumper warranty. For mag ride you can get it updated for 350 - if this is a chevy dealer I would just make it part of purchase. With a 40K selling price your payment might be low enough to make a payment and put 300 away each month for repairs.

Does sound like a nice corvette....I say get it. With much deprectiation gone if you had to sell it the loss would not be that great. Good luck

What you are looking at is a Premier Edition. The Brownstone interior is very nice. It should also have the listed 5 piece luggage that was part of the package but a lot of owners kept that when selling. Good luck.

  • Get a CarFax
  • Get it inspected
  • Look up values on KBB and NADA (the price seems high to me for that mileage)
Keep in mind, drivetrain warranties aren't going to help you with some of the most likely things to fail with high usage. With rattles, buttons, seats, electronics and many other things, you're on your own.

With a car like this that has likely been driven daily, it's also more likely they weren't shy with pushing it. Make sure you really know what you're getting into. That's higher than typical mileage for a 14 Vette.

Good luck

To me, private party seems risky when it come to vetting a potential buyer. You don’t want to let anyone behind the wheel for a test drive.

how do you do it the right way?

Don't put too much confidence in a CarFax report.

I just got one two weeks ago 2014 z51 3LT w auto, certified at 27k miles. MSRP was ~68k new and I was out the door at 41.5k plus tax. I think this is a bad deal even with all those options. You might as well look at getting a new 2019 or just wait 2 weeks until more C8 news comes out then go from there.

Given those options it sure seems like a Premier Edition, the VIN and dash plaque will confirm. Mine only had 18K in mileage when I got it a year ago for around $43K for reference. You can find lower mileage examples but as noted for a 2014 its pretty much as loaded up as they come.
Does it really have the carbon roof with body colored sides? Mine didn't, I got the transparent top.
And yes there is a update to the mag-ride suspension programming, but honestly for me its perfect as is.

DAMN, QUIT LOOKING AT IT AND BUY IT!!!!

On a serious note, you'll enjoy the Premier Editions. You'll need to do the update, but only if you want it. My C7 was built the first week of production and my MRC is perfect! Terrific price too....grab it.

Definitely sounds like a Premier Edition. I have one and love it. You can tell for sure by the vin number. It will end with a few zeros and then the car number. Mine is car # 22.

Assuming it was taken care of, you will enjoy this car very much. The mag ride works great, although I usually just leave mine in Sport or Track mode since I like the way the car feels and responds.

Good luck.

One final point. These cars stickered around $77K back in 2014. I picked up mine last year with 24,000 miles and paid around $46K if my memory serves me.

I remember reading about the premier model awhile back. This one is. I can see the blue on the dash plac & the VIN # ends with 00013. The wheels have been changed to the black Z51 wheels. I think I'll go look at it tomorrow.

# 13? Bad JuJu!

Just kidding! I have a P.E. Vert #125 and I absolutely love it! If you like the car and think the price is good (after the above advice to dig as deep as you can), then go for it! I haven't bothered to do the Mag ride update.

If itís a 3LT, look carefully at the dashboard trim, especially around the defroster vents. They have a problem with coming apart there. Cost to replace is around $3K, not covered by any extended warranty.

I have a 2014 Z51 with all the performance options also, though mine is an A6. I have all the upgraded interior options too. 55k miles and almost no problems save a few buzzes and rattles that I took care of and a rear sway bar bushing that wore out causing a clunking noise when driving over bumps. Take a good look at the dash, 3LT dashes are known to delaminate and it could be a $3k job to replace it. I would not hesitate to buy that 2014 if I were you if it passes inspection. I expect to get 200k miles out of mine before I replace it with a C9 (yep, skip the C8 and let Chevy have some time to perfect the mid engine design).

Chin up, it will get better. I got divorced in 2011 (also a cheating wife) and I too bought out the ex so I could keep all of my 401k, pension, house, boat, and camper. After a few years when I was done with child support, I bought my Corvette in 2016. Then last year I added a '68 Corvette Pro-Street Roadster to the stable. Life is good without the anchor. It would take a heck of a woman and a pre-nup for me to get married again.

I went to look. I got to see it before they could fix or clean it. They did just finish the inspection, oil change and stuff. It was definitely a daily driver. Has some scratches, rock chips on the nose. Dash leather is coming off, wheels were changed to the black Z51 wheels. Dealer said they were going to ask 40,990.00. I offered them 34k as is.

My new to me Corvette, it needs me.

It's beautiful. My 3LT dash is coming apart too. My plan it to take it out this winter and take it to an auto upholstery shop and see if it can be repaired rather than replace it with a new one of the 2LT one.
