Default HELP! Birds keep chewing through my car cover!

I am at my wits end! Birds keep chewing through my car cover looking for nesting material. My car cover is super thick too. (Extreme Defender from RPI). Tried covers without the backing material and they chew through that too.Unfortunately I am not blessed to have a garage, just a very nice carport. If I take the cover off, they will just crap all over my car.....already been that route. Anybody had this problem and come up with a solution?? I've hung CD's inside the carport, did the fake owl, etc. And a shotgun is not an option where I live.....

What species is this?
Are they nesting in carport, rook/supports?
Never ever seen anything like it.

I'd have suggested the fake owl ploy, but was tried & didn't work.
Only other thing I can think of?
Hanging some screening around carport closing off access to these suckers.
IIRC large rolls of nylon screening's available.
Often it's used for closing off garage door openings so area can be used w/o mosquitoes etc.
In a carport wind c/would be an issue, though.

Trick is getting past nesting time, then problem solves itself.
Until, next year.

They are definitely nesting in the carport. Have removed nests in the past only to have them built right back. They destroy all netting and materials we have put up to keep them out. There are birds/trees all around my house so they are always nesting nearby as well. This happened last year but the fake owl did the trick.......not this time. Put a second cover over the damaged one and they chewed through that one too in the same place. Have read people using pepper spray on the car cover but with my luck, I would end up being the victim!

Get a fake owl.... one where the head moves in the wind.... Looks like you have a fence close by... you can place the own on it.

A fake owl or something with some movement may help.

Before I sided my house I had a terrible time with Woodpeckers. One solution that worked well was colorful shiny streamers. I used gift wrap ribbon. Hang these around your carport... cheap and might work. Try to find a shiny material about 3/4 wide. Something like this ....

I had the fake owl perched on the roof of my car when the birds dug holes in my cover over the hood last night. That other damage was Sunday night. Thank God I had put another cover with no backing over the cover I already had on there. Also have CD discs dangling from fishing line the entire perimeter of my carport for the past month so there's plenty of shiny movement. My neighbors must think I'm crazy when they drive by and see CDs hanging all over the place!

This is on the hood near the drivers side wheel.......

I have never heard of this.

But if they are nesting in the garage port, you could install those thin long spikes on all perch points so they can't perch. If this doesn't stop them from using your car cover, it will certainly cut back on the next/pooping issue.

Something like this....

I hate to be that guy but you might need to invest in a BB gun. Sounds like you've exhausted all other options.

Throw a face snake on fender, Throw a fake dead bird next to snake. Also the fake owl with the bobble head and sparkling eyes works great at chasing bird. where ever you place the owl make sure its visible from the air.

No mater where I am and need a fake owl Ace hardware always has them

We use a product called a car umbrella by lanmodo whenever we have to park a car outside of our garage. This thing is great. Maybe this could be an option for you instead of the traditional car cover?

Very good. Arizona people use a fake owl to keep the birds off our roof. It really works! Surprised the hell out of me.

I didn't see any experiments in a wind tunnel. Inverted umbrella anyone?

The People's Republic of Maryland will put him under the jail for using even a harmless BB gun. The only people allowed to use guns here are the criminals. Can't wait to move out of this POS state. We'll be Texas residents in 3 years. Hope I can find a good Chevy dealership in the DFW area.

Try eliminating the areas where they nest by boxing them in or by adding those nylon anti-bird strips that make it impossible for a bird to land. (Brand names are Bird-X and Bird B Gone.) You might have seen these on buildings in big cities. Unfortunately, the stuff is not cheap.

Good luck!

The top has ventilation on all four sides that keep it from “catching” air. We’ve had ours out in some pretty strong thunderstorms with gusts that were rather high. There are also eight straps holding it down. Four straps per side. It’s held up really well and never inverted or came loose. (I’m not paid by the company, nor do I sell these) I’m just happy with the product!

PS: I’ve heard that the cheap knockoffs are not as good as these. The lanmodo is the original car umbrella.
