Stone flew up from under my hood !
I was driving around the outside of the mall today. I stopped at a light and then accelerated without a soul in site. No cars around me or anything. All of a sudded a stone flies up from under my hood and skids up my windshield and onto the roof then back down under the hood cowl. I almost had a heart attack. It's a new car. So I quickly pulled over and popped the hood and found a 1/2" stone and tossed it as I checked for damage.
My question is... how did this happen? Are the sticky tires (which pick up everything) somehow kicking stones into the engine compartment ?? I am lucky there is no noticeable damage to my windshield or roof. Do I need a screen for the cowl or something ?? Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Melting Slicks
Fluke. Usually you will get them kicking up on the rocker panels.
If it did do a little damage you would have got it out of the way. Much less tense after you get that first nick.

Don't see how a stone could come up from under the hood, but I guess stranger things have happened.
