Default Computer Issue

Infotainment weirdness!! Just rolled out my 2017 Z51 from winter storage and found the display of time, date, and percent of remaining oil life to be completely inaccurate. The battery was always kept full or partially full (engine started regularly without hesitation) throughout 4 months of storage. Never before encountered this issue... any suggestions?

Just disconnect the battery and let everything reset. May or may not work. I don't think its anything to be concerned about. I was a rough winter. Time change is probably because of daylight savings time. Just a thought

And remember oil life is based on time as well as use and will go to zero in a calendar year whether driven or not.

This would explain a decrease in the % of oil life remaining.

As for the other things, try the battery disconnect and see if things clear up.

We think of the C7 as a vehicle... it's really a computer disguised as a sports car.... As with your PC or Mac, reboots often work!

I thought my oil life being at 35% was kinda weird considering I only have 2000 miles on her (and had the oil changed at 500 miles). In May my 2019 GS A8 will be a year old and while she's my daily driver Ive only made one road trip. Tooling around the streets of Brooklyn just doesn't log the miles. So the oil percentage is a combo of calendar days plus mileage huh? Does that Mobil 1 0W40 go bad after a year? Lets just say I kept her garaged for two years and put 0 miles on her would my oil life be 0%?

OP - your battery is 4-years old (if you have not replaced it) and when they start to go, I've read where all kinds of crazy electrical gremlins can show up. I replaced my '17 battery last month. Not worth dealing with what may happen, including getting stuck somewhere.

I don't think the oil goes bad, but you get condensation (water) buildup along with whatever other impurities are in the engine. I replace my oil and filter at least once a year . . . cheap insurance.

I change my wife's Lexus SC430 hardtop convertible every other year since 2002 as she only drives it summer of about 3-5k miles at most. So for 19 years, the car just hit 100k miles and never been in the shop for any repairs other than oil change, tire rotation basic maintenance and to date drives like a brand new car but it's not a daily driver and summer only car. However, if you drive your corvette or other vehicle as a daily driver than of course your oil change schedule would be more frequent and also if you drive it hard at higher limits of performance.

I check the oil visually for color, the level amount, and change oil filter and have no worries but todays cars are different. My Porsche Cayenne the oil change interval is every 10k miles but the oil industry have set a recommended industry standard of you should change your oil every 3-5k miles which in my opinion is to get more oil purchase revenue.

There has been so many advances in engines and oils that the old every 3k or 3 months rule is now obsolete. Many automakers have oil-change intervals at 7,500 or even 10,000 miles and 6 or 12 months for time and can be found in many owner’s manuals. Follow the manual and your car’s engine should stay well-lubricated and perform well.

The oil monitor time is a variable reduction. If you fill it and let it sit I think it times out to 0% in 13 months. Now there is a certain amount of miles you can put on (and it's dependent on the type of miles), but if you stay below the % that is equivalent to the timeout (about 8% per month) you don't notice it. I put on 5000 miles since my last oil change and I'm at 9% and its the 11th month. I think you can likely put on 8000 miles in a year and you'll time out about the same time as if you put on 0.

Regarding "computer issue"... upon further review (and much of it), the signals the computer was sending was an indication that the battery was about to fall off the cliff. Testing showed virtually no charge remained. How it made its last start is a mystery. The old battery was original equipment , 4.5 years old. Checking a few battery manufacture's web sites revealed a normal life span of 3 to 5 years (I was living on the edge!) and to maximize battery life in cars that receive extended storage time, it is best to use a trickle-charger full-time and not try to refresh the charge by running the engine for 20 or 30 minutes once/mo. A constant charge is the answer.
