Default 2016 C7 battery

Original battery is still in my 2016 c7. I am in upstate NY so I take it off road for winter. Usually May 1 till maybe Nov1. I do keep a trickle charger on it all winter however. My question is being 6 yrs old should I change it now or is it still good ?? I have had 0 issues with it.

Typical usage yields 4 - 5 yeasrs before "reasonable doubt" can be raised. I replaced mine after 5 years even though it showed no signs (granted that can occur rather suddenly) because the C7 battery access is a PITA (as you know) and it was at the mechanic for some other maintenance needs (is there any more expensive phrase in the English language than "while we're at it."?) Your circumstances are different as here in western Washington State there are winter days when you can sneak it out for a spin......

I replaced the battery in my 2016 last summer. Don't know how the previous owner treated the car. He apparently did store it each winter. Not worth the chance of getting stuck somewhere.

I'd change your battery as being a 2016 depending on build date it could be near 7 years old. Delcos are very good batteries. I'd recommend either of the below that you should be able to get from your local GM dealer and AC/Delco parts distributors.

mine is 7 years old now and no problems. I don’t fix things that aren’t broke. Just me!

Same here, however running around with a 7 year old battery is plain foolish as it's a hair from being broke. ...........

I'm somewhat in the same boat. Bought my 16 vert last August. It came from Illinois and only had 6300 miles on it, so was stored a lot. Original battery.

I now have 15k miles on it and have had no issues with the battery at all. However I plan to change mine out toward the end of the summer before I start my busier "Fall driving season". Most of my driving right now is short trips around the house, in town. If I were to have an issue I won't be in a predicament. But in the Fall I do longer distance highway trips. Don't want to have an issue and end up on the side of the highway a long way from a decent-sized town.

To me its just a normal maintenance item. Might I get another 6 months or more out of it by the time I replace it late this Summer? Sure. Is it worth that risk? Nope. Not really going to save me any money.

I just changed mine in my 17 GS yesterday, wasn’t having any issues, but I am going on a long road trip next week and I didn’t want to take any chances. Being away from home and having electrical issues is not good.

foolish for you, maybe. But you don’t know me. I have never replaced a battery till it dies. Have had them die on road trips and have had them die when they are 2 years old. So I don’t worry, I’ll just replace it when it dies.

If you were a Pontic owner, you'd want to risk it and be "driving excitement".

I changed the OEM battery in my 2014 in the spring of 2019, so it was about 5.5 years old at the time. The original battery was working fine, but I did not want to take the chance of it failing on me at the wrong time. And I too keep the car connected to a battery tender when not being driven.

Tip, if you are changing it out your self. When placing it back in, you need to go in at a angle towards the drivers side down first. It will save you grief trust me.

2016 and my battery is the original.
The battery was made Feb 23 2016.
I am having my battery replaced next Tuesday at a Chevy dealer.
They have some sort of service special going.
42 month gold ac/ delco battery $174.95 installed plus tax.
30 month Silver battery $144.95 installed plus tax.
Dealer recommended 42 month battery. I’m going to be 74 this year.
30 months could be a lifetime battery.😀
Probably not going to keep the car that long.

Makes sense, however keep in mind that there's more to consider when choosing between a 42 and a 30 month warranty, besides warranty longevity, there's CCA, RC and AH thus overall performance of the battery.

Good, you evidently like 'living on the edge', I like that.

I average about 200 miles a month now.
That is not a heavy load for the battery.
I live in a moderate climate and avoid peak traffic as much as possible.
Felt the 30 month battery is sufficient.

Change it. To me it just isn't worth the hassle to wait until it dies. Where will you be when it doesn't start? I always change ours at 5 years. Even if it is a $200 battery, I'd rather risk losing out on another year of use ($40) so I can replace it on MY schedule. Also, although I haven't looked into it, the Corvette battery may not be one of the most readily available models. So it may be difficult to find a new one when you need it.

I had to read this 3 times to figure out why you’d be taking your Vette off road. Lol.

If you’re doing the labor yourself and aren’t driving it too far, you may get away with waiting til it dies.

If you will depend on a dealer or mechanic to do it, I say change it now.
