With the price of gas these days I'm not going to idle my engine unnecessarily at all, on a hot day if you open the windows and crank the AC you'll be comfortable in 2 or 3 minutes anyway. Or if you open the windows and pop the roof you'll be pretty comfortable pretty much right away unless it's 120 degrees outside.

$3/60 min. = .05/min.
2 or 3 min. idling = 10 or 15 cents
Even still, I have never been a fan of idling an engine more than necessary, especially on initial startup. It's one of the worst things you can do for an engine.
