Anyone have experience with good quality touch up paint? I was leaning towards Dr. Colorchip, but thought I get some different opinions. Also, the area I need is in the black section next to my rear license plate; anyone know that that color of black is actually called?
I was just looking into this - I did a quick search and came up with a lot of threads regarding the AC Delco touchup and Dr. Colorchip. They were interesting reads. But they also contained the color codes for the black called "carbon flash".
Some of what I found and had cut/pasted for carbon flash: GM manufacturer of n American OEM CODE WA501Q,GAR,58,04Y,58U
Dr Colorchip is my choice also. Granted I have only used it for 3 C6's all torch red, (haven't had to use it on my C7) but the match was dead on and the consistency is nice and thick.
I got a chip on my Z06 door the day after I bought it. Irritated, I immediately ordered Dr Colorchip, trying it for the first time. It worked so well that I have no idea where the chip was. The color and metallic flake mix is dead on.
The ones from the dealer have always been a perfect match for me. I have never tried Dr. Colorchip though...
The advantage of Dr Colorchip is that you don't have to deal with the blop of paint. You end up with a paint repair that is flush with the original surface, with very little effort.
The last time I bought touch up paint it was $11.00 NOT the absolute last time I bought BLACK touch up paint was at the dealer and it was $35.00 the paint's the same but I think an engineer from NASA invented the dispenser. GEEZ
I used Dr Color Chip once for a small nick on my '18 Silver Sky Metallic Tacoma. $35 for 1/2 oz and it wasn't even close to a match. I ended up using my GM Blade Silver touch-up which was actually a very close match.
I know they have this cool application system, however color match is most basic task for a successful touch-up repair.
