I have had traps and no luck. Even put poison tabs down and the damn thing ate all of it and even ate the peanut butter without setting the trap off !!
""Also try putting a number of Bounce dryer sheets or some Irish Spring soap in the cabin and engine bay""
I tried Irish Spring in a car I had to keep outside for a while. The little bastards nibbled on the pieces and moved them around.
Glue traps baited with peanut butter worked the best to trap them.
I have seen nothing work as good as peanut butter, I had a rat problem here at my place and I could not get that lil bastard for nothing. Then out comes the peanut butter and I had him trapped 5 minutes after I baited the trap
I was going to suggest 'snake' as they can get into tight spots.
Last summer I was borrowing my parent's RAV4 because my Audi needed work. Kid was in the car, i was outside, and managed to catch a frog. Went to show the frog to the boy, and although I was more than a foot from the car, the frog jumped in. We scrambled to try to catch but was unable to get it before seeing it go up into the dash. Spent the afternoon taking body panels apart and could at one point see it deep in a crevice and managed to bump it out! Then it jumped back in, and never could find it. Left the car open in the garage with water dishes on the garage floor to lure it out at night. Never knew if it got it out, but my parents never complained about a smell. Well, from a frog, at least.
Good luch, best option might be bate and trap. Perhaps also moth ***** to make the car inhospitable, and leave the doors open so it can escape?
Moth *****-
We have a BBQ grill that we leave outside all year 'round, with a canvas cover. Of course we don't cook outside during the Chicago winters, but otherwise it's the same in January as July.
Every Spring we find mouse nests in different sections of the grill.
For the last three years in October I've put mesh bags of moth ***** several places inside the grill. Now, every Spring we find mouse nests built around the moth ball bags.
I have been using a product that is used by farmers to protect their very expensive equipment while in storage in off seasons. Do not remember the exact name but it seems to be readily available in farm supply stores and if I recall is called something like "cab protector". It has an odor similar to cedar which is much more pleasant than moth *****. It has worked well for me so far. I have a vert so put a couple of bags in the cabin and one bag in the trunk. I was concerned that it might stain the carpet so place the bags in aluminum foil "boats" that I folded from HD foil.
FWIW, I do also put mothballs on each side of my garage doors.
I had a mouse actually climb into the furnace fresh air intake PVC pipe outside the house. I could hear him in the basement scratching inside an elbow at the furnace trying to climb back up the pipe. If you saw where he must have crawled in you couldn't believe it's possible. Waited a couple days for him to die and took the PVC apart at the furnace and dumped him out of the pipe. It was before he decomposed so it hardly even stunk. Put a screen over the inlet to make sure that never happened again. I hope you don't have to take it apart to get rid of him. That would be a job. I'd just keep trying to bait him with a trap outside the car. Yes peanut butter, they love it. I've had really good luck with Tomcat traps from Home Depot. They like to nest under my shed in the yard. Luckily they haven't come in the garage yet.
My entire main harness needs to be repoaced
luckily the insurance covers it.
but unfortunately i have to deal with this bullshit problem.
Probably have to remove the motor in order to replace the harness.
FYI nothing works. I have bought every single type of rat trap off of Amazon. I have 10 sticky pads placed everywhere, I have traditional ray traps, I have the bucket method too, where they climb up a small mouse stair case and they fall into the bucket.
anyway just pray for me 😞

In my experience, a snap trap misfire sometime results in a captive limb sacrificed for the escape and then they bleed to death somewhere else... but with the glue... if they have buddies or family they come around to see what's up and you get them too...
Possibly, I have benefitted from the mouse getting away with the trap on his leg or tail. They seem to go back to where they entered.
Sad right? But no not a barn. In a very busy suburb area in the garage
I don’t even know how it got in
it’s driving me nuts
there’s no excuse here, but the only thing I can think of, maybe the car was parked for too long without being driven or whatever.
Flattman said, "The last thing you want is for it to die in there". This is the MOST important reply here. Be sure of this and then work on solutions.

I made the mistake of using poison and one got in through my HVAC filter and died deep in my HVAC system. Never could find it and I refuse to pay 2K + to tear the dash out for it to never go back in right. I decided to wait it out in hopes the mouse would turn to dust eventually. It's taken over a year. Still smell a "tinge" of death. Sucks
