My new to me 2014 vert's a.c. is ice cold set at 72 degrees on auto with the top up. I mean it's like freezing me out of the car. The blower motor is one turn away from off. Synced. Is this normal? Is there a setting I missed?
Also, I turn the air off with the top down. Is this the normal practice?
Thanks.
the hvac system in the c7 leaves a lot to be desired. a degree of difference on the controls changes the air from kind of warm to ice cold, or vice versa.
as far as turning it off with the top down.. that's your choice, bro. when I was doing the convertible life I would have my hvac system pretty much at full blast.
I also find the C7 air Ice Cold at 70 degrees with the top up and the fan on the lowest setting. I was worried about it not being cold enough after reading the forum. I have driven several over the last few weeks.
Even in their worst years, not only Vettes but American cars always had superior AC. For many years, many European and Asian makes didn't even put AC in cars sold in home markets.......
You appear to have a "wonderful" problem, AC too cold. My 19 GS doesn't cool unless the temp setting is at 64 on a 90 degree day. The dealer service dept., who I trust, says there is nothing wrong. So I feel for you -- actually no, I do not. Drive your Vette and enjoy the cold AC.

I guess too cold IS better than not cold enough. The other question is with the top down should the a.c. be on or off or does it matter. My thinking is with it on it would run at full tilt and perhaps be harmful to the system?

blah blah blah too cold AC blah blah ice....
I'm envious of your AC woes sir. LOL. I do think mine needs to be looked at tho. Doesn't feel like it blows as cold as it once did.
As far as running it with the top down, absolutely ok. I'll have the top off and AC running on really warm/hot days. And the heat will be cranked on cold ones while topless. You're not hurting a thing.

The only way to know if there is a refrigerant issue is to pay someone about $200 to vacuum the system and then recharge it correctly.
Then you will know you have exactly the manufacturer suggested amount of refrigerant in the system.
Yours may be slightly overcharged. When undercharged the system will blow cold on one side and warm on the other regardless of settings.
My son had an issue with his Hummer H2 not being cold enough.
They vaccumed it and recharged it and it was nice and cold after that. It appears that it had some air in the system.
Thanks every one for the thoughts and comments.Switching the air direction to face and feet, turning auto and recirculate off, and setting the temp to 74 degrees turns out to be nearly perfect for me in near 80 degree days. Plus I know that the system has plenty of reserve power so to speak to freeze me out on command. As far as top down is concerned I've decided a.c. on is fine but not on auto.

It sounds like your air conditioning is working just fine. Thankfully, down here in TX where it is hotter than the south side of hell, the AC in my Corvette keeps me cold enough where the temperature and the blower setting are never set to the max except for the initial cool down.
The AC on my 2007 Yukon Denali failed once about ten years ago. I had my local Chevrolet dealership make the repair. It has been working fine to date without problems and has logged hundreds of operational hours.
There is no harm to you’re AC system if you want to run it ‘full tilt’. It’s designed to be trouble free for many years.
There is very little cabin space to cool and that helps the AC keep things cool even on a low fan setting. I don't seem to have a problem keeping mine consistent.
