I wonder if those early adopters heading to the drag strip know the C7 has no-lift-shift now? I.e. launch the car floor it and hold your foot on the floor the entire time. Should be able to power shift the car w/o getting into the limiter.

Total speculation / stab in the dark here...
What if: while the Tonawanda plant was/is getting ramped up the LT1 was/is being built at the Performance Build Center?
Could hand building them squeak a few more ponies? GM would only lose to admit to this because a) everyone would want the 'hand built' engine and b) it would look bad on their standard manufacturing. So mum would be the word....
There was speculation that the manual tranny Grand sport coupes were producing more power because they were hand built. Curious if this is the same?
They certainly should have the capacity after building the Z06, ZR1, 427, and GS manual coupe engines. They built just over 5000 in 2013 for reference.

For comparison my '94 Camaro w/ a 396 LT4 that was putting down 405 rwhp at the time ran the exact same 11.92 @ 119 with a 1.85 60' time. That car was ~ 3450lb w/o driver.
Why are people so suprised the GM spec is 12.0 @ 119 and since the C5 came out people have always been able to better the GM spec at the drag strip in good conditions.

I never had an issue in my 2010 5th gen SS Camaro. I never lifted the throttle while drag racing and I never had problems hitting the limiter during shifting.
One just have to be able to quickly and correctly shift a manual trans car.

If the cars horsepower is SAE (certified), how can that be? I thought all cars now go through this so there is no more of this type of stuff.
Think 2003 E55 AMG (469 hp but really was about 510)
2003-2004 Mustang Cobra (390 hp)... cars were dynoing 385-395 RWHP!
I am all for it if its underrated but can it be? The 2014 C7 is SAE certified.

Sounds like the air quality was better than SAE correction factors, meaning it was making more than the advertised power

my old LPE ZR-1 picks up 20 RWHP at 50 deg and cool dry air has a very noticeable affect on the HP and performance even by my butt dyno.
driver makes all the difference in the world.

Wait....different air, DA makes more/less power and running on a well prepped track makes a difference? BULLSH*T!!!!!!! Those C7's will run 11.5's on street tires in Florida during a hurricane.

This is great!
A handful of C7s now in the possession of their end users with a few that made it to the track and the car has done high 11's at nearly 120 MPH a week after delivery began. The naysayers can take that and chew on it for a while. It will only get better. Looks like the base C7 should be capable of low 11s with tune and tires. This is fun.
Hats off to the GM engineers and others who developed this car. They have a real winner in the pipeline now.
