I found the chrome ring was almost impossible to remove just by hand, but with just a little more force than I could apply with fingers it easily rotated. Note, there is a flat on two sides of the ring that make it easier to grip..
You just need a pair of these.

Sheesh, but THIS seems a lot more complicated than my memories of doing my C5 back in the day. I think I'll just settle for a **** made from a black Belgium cue ball dropped well down over the stick. I still have the jig I made for doing these... somewhere, hehehe.

Almost done with my MGW install on my 17 Z06 and took it down the road for a test drive. Feels really good.

One question though. Is it normal to hear a little more "gear chatter" when shifting? It could be I'm hearing more moving parts in there due to us not reusing that one thick rubber piece and also to my console not being put back together yet

Probably because everything hasn't been put back together

Thank you SO much Theta for making this guide! I used this guide and referred to MGW's videos to do my install. It went perfectly thanks to your guide!

Great instructions Theta. Very informative and helpful. I too compared your instructions with the MGW install video's which lead to a successful flat-stick install. Love the positive feel of the MGW. The 'Snick' accompanied by each shift is strangely satisfying.

Default install on a 2017 grand sport

I just finished my install. took about 3 hours but took my time and struggled with the rubber boot. All back togther and it looks to be working with a test in the garage through the gears. Will take it out once it warms up a bit..

Will the CEL eventually go away or do I need to find a way to reset it?

Default Trick to getting the rubber plate under the MGW boot

So I spent over an hour trying to get this on correctly after viewing the MGW install video, which apparently was on a C6. The way I finally got it to fit completely under the MGW boot was to hold the plate a little bit above the console, toward the top of the bolts, THEN push down the rubber boot under the MGW boot while holding the plate up. I couldn't get it to go without holding the plate up on the driver's side. But holding the plate up, only about 1", allowed me to flex the rubber down then under the MGW boot. Then it was 1 minute to finish the rest of the boot.

This is what I mean. I took it off and did it again. It's easy now. Don't put the panel all the way down, while its above the console, flex the rubber below the MGW boot on the left side. Once that side is in, the rest is easy. Get it under the boot, THEN push the panel down and bolt it in .

I panicked for a minute when I was left with 4 bolts after I had reassembled the interior. I was like, WHAT DID I FORGET?!?!

But then I realized they went on the old shift box. HAHA
