Default aFe POWER Momentum Sealed Air Intake System - Official Release!

aFe POWER (advanced FLOW engineering) is excited to join the CorvetteForum as a Supporting Vendor, and interact with all of you! We look forward to being able to discuss C7 performance, answer any questions you have about the aFe line of products, as well as showcasing upcoming R&D and open the door behind the scenes at aFe POWER and what we are working on for this great platform.

First to be released (shipping this week) is the aFe POWER Momentum Intake System for the C7 Corvette, which is available in either a high performance oiled Pro 5 filter media, or an "oil-free" Pro DRY S filter media, depending on your preference.

The aFe Momentum intake system outflows the factory intake by 42%, and dyno results (after the ECU adjusts - more on that later) have resulted in an additional 18HP and 22lb-ft of additional torque, in the mid-range, where most effective.

Quick Data Points:

• Improved Horsepower & Torque - Improved Throttle Response
• Sealed Intake Design - Roto-molded Tube w/Built In Resonance Chamber and Premium Hardware
• Massive 7" x 9.5" Cone Air Filter - Choice of Cleanable/Reusable Oiled or Dry Filter Media
• One-Piece Sealed Housing w/Clear Sight Window
• Direct Bolt-On - No Cutting or Drilling - 30 Minute Install
• No Tuning Needed
• $618.75 MSRP - Available direct at $519.75 - If multiple people are interested, we can create a special package for CorvetteForum.com members.

Development Information:

A little about our Intake development process, for those not familiar with aFe POWER. All design and engineering comes from our 160,000 sq. ft. facilities in Southern California. We utilize the latest in technology, from 3D scanning, latest CAD design software, 3D printing, AWD Dynojet dyno, and with the C7 Corvette, utilizing CAD information directly from GM to assist in the design and prototyping of this intake system.

Design starts with CAD information on the Corvette, analyzing the stock intake tract, and designing a new intake system that outflows the stock setup. Once the initial design has been completed, we are able to "print" plastic prototype parts with our 3D printers, and construct the complete prototype and install on the vehicle. From here we are able to test the vehicle on the dyno, through rigorous testing, monitoring performance and ECU parameters in real-time, and can tweak and make any changes that are necessary.

As many are aware the MAF sensor information plays a strong role with the Corvette, and managing the diameter at the MAF in the intake tube is critical. Care was taken during development to test different designs, all while monitoring both short term and long term fuel trims, until our engineers dialed everything in, requiring no tuning necessary for this application.

Once the R&D was complete, we move to manufacturing of the intake itself, creating the intake molds from CNC machines, and production begins. Premium hardware is used on the kit, including stainless steel T-bolt clamps and a reinforced silicone hump coupler for strength and durability. Momentum intakes are designed with fewer parts, which allows this intake to be installed in 30 minutes for most. Care is taken for the best design possible, including little things like billet aluminum fittings mounted on the tube to ensure a perfect connection with the factory vacuum lines.

Installation of the housing mounts the kit directly into the factory location on the fender well, ensuring the coolest air possible is being captured from the factory intake tract. A large clear sight window is built into the housing for easy filter inspection without removal of the air box. The largest filter possible was used and is available in two different filter media options: Pro 5R is an oiled filter media for maximum airflow, while the Pro DRY S "oil-less" filter media provides maximum filtration.

The C7 Corvette has a dynamic ECU that in our testing with the intake does not always show huge number gains right from installation, as the ECU will continue to adjust with miles on the vehicle, and take advantage of the additional airflow. We saw maximum results after about 200 miles of driving after intake installation and dynos. This is normal and a byproduct of how the ECU works.

Part Number Information:

Thanks for posting all the info!

Question: Is there a performance difference in your CAI system depending on the oiled and non-oiled filters?

There is going to be a slight difference in performance, as the oiled filters can flow about 15% more than the dry, but realistically for you to feel the difference in the wild is going to be a challenge.

Thanks! If there is some interest in that I can see about setting something up, we definitely want to get some in the hands of enthusiasts.

Welcome to the forum!
Curious, How much of the Hp gain is attributable to the filter and how much to the intake itself?
In other words did you test your intake with a stock filter?

Forgot to ask: are the dyno results just after installation or after the 200 mile adjustment period you mention?

Great question! I'm pinging my engineers to address that now and I'll post up their info.

Yeah, let's get the interest level up, and we can go down that route.

The dyno results are indeed after the adjustment period. It's just the way the ECU works, but that represents the real world anyways.

The gains are definitely from a combination of the filter and the intake. It's difficult as we do not have a filter with the OE material that can be used with our Intake System, to put a full apples to apples. The filter we use with this kit is MUCH larger than the OE version.

We do have an OE-sized aFe POWER filter which also flows almost exactly the same CFM percentage over the stock OE filter as well. I'll start a new thread here shortly to showcase that. But the intake is for the large horsepower gains.

Everything is designed together and fine tuned during R&D to provide the best results possible.

Interesting that the intake leaned out the AFR by about a point or so; which explains some of the power gain as well.

Excellent! Assembly is supposed to take place on Friday, and there is already numerous backorders, so it may or may not be in that first batch, but these are going into normal production, so if delayed, it won't be by much.

That's awesome! The Jeep market is yet another that we have a lot of fun with.

We have plenty more planned for the C7 shortly.. Including everything from headers to exhaust, and you'll have a front row ticket through the entire R&D process, we'll be posting it up, including getting opinions on products that people want.

Should be happening almost immediately. This week we will create a post asking for some ideas, namely what the C7 audience is looking for.. Shorties? Long Tubes?

We can do anything..

I can't wait to get one on my car! Ran your filter on my S2000 and full intake on my Evo X.
