Corsa isn't an option with stock. It has full 3 inch pipes. You need to crush the clamps at the connector, no beuno. Never looked at Manzo or AWE.

Seems like AWE uses 2.75 inch pipes. That's good, makes it an option. Will check Manzo and Top Speed.

Top Speed's goes down to 2.75 at the tails so it fits snug.

Corsa works fine. My car came with it. Although there are signs of exhaust leaks from both sides, there aren't actively leaking so someone must have fixed it along the way.

I have the Manzo and love it. It does drone about 83mph in 4 cylinder mode which is annoying if your valves are always open. It's not nearly as bad when they're closed.

I like how every one thinks the factory exhaust is so great. When changing my x pipe I found that mine was leaking at the clamps and at one of the welds at the crossover.

2.75" is definitely ideal if you plan to retain the factory mufflers. I was not impressed at all with Corsa's "crush to fit" design. Borla got it right, and it sounds like a few of these others have as well, but I've only personally laid my hands on stock, Borla, and Corsa. I would like to inspect firsthand some of these newer offerings that weren't available years back though.

I am loving the sound of the new AWE X-Pipe on my Z51!

Thank you for posting! Seems like the AWE is the choice to get now that Borla's is out of production. I appreciate you weighing it as well. I'll have to double-check the original post, but I believe that's between the weight of the Borla & Corsa.

*edit*
It's actually slightly heavier than the Corsa while still being lighter than stock.

AWE is 3" though and I'm assuming AWE sounds almost identical to the Borla. With that being said lot's of great information on this thread!

Default Drone?

The inventor of the x pipe was Dr Gas. I've experimented with his x pipes over the years and have formed a few conclusions:

Merging the 2 exhaust banks of a V8 make it sound more smooth, mellow, less popping, a little quieter, and a bit more European sounding than the classic American V8 deep tone. These new C7 X pipes eliminate the cats, that's the reason they can sound louder.

The longer the exhaust system is after the last merge the deeper the tone. The rearward x in the Corsa gives it a higher pitch vs the Borla's deeper tone with the single x farther forward.

We know adding an x gives a small power gain. But as a fan of the traditional deep V8 tone I'd still like to try a center pipe with no cats and no x, no merge at all. It would be cheap and light and would certainly provide a very deep tone with lots of the popping and farting everybody seems to love. But would a true dual exhaust like this sound too raunchy with no merge at all?

Has anyone considered trying this? Opinions welcome, flame away

(The excellent acoustic insulation of the C7 seems to have eliminated the interior drone issues that plagued C5s and C6s with loud exhaust systems)

.
I ran a Borla and two Corsa systems on my previous three C6's. Both brands produced a drone in the cabin. Is "that" an affirmative that the Borla or Corsa will produce NO DRONE in the cabin of my C7?

Zero drone with the Borla X-pipe that I've been running ever since creating this thread over 5 years ago. My car is now at 50k miles too so I have plenty of seat time. I've since also added the AFE high-flow cat pipes and same experience, louder in Sport/Track, but about the same as stock in Tour/Eco/Weather with absolutely no drone what so ever.

Thank you for doing this ! How do I make the car even louder ? Headers ?? This is still tame compared to my C5 with B&B bullets, high flow cats and headers.

To go along with your X-pipe, I'd add something like either the Hooker shorty headers or ported exhaust manifolds and AFE cat pipes, or the ARH mid-length headers.

I think some may be confusing "drone" with "more audible".

Default My 'catless' AFE front down pipe Z06 sound results.

I have added (with high temp coating along with high temperature silver spray painted 'heat wrap') AFE "catless" front down pipes to the factory Stainless Steel front exhaust manifolds. I did retained the factory high flow "catted" X-pipe for less exhaust odor.

Stock Tune Sound Results: In touring mode 'driving normal' there is no change in sound from the drivers seat and 'little' change at idle if standing behind the car, but if you punch it (rpms exceed 3500 where the baffles open) "ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE" which may "Wake The Dead" too. The first time I hit the gas (+3500 rpms in neutral) sitting in the driveway with the drivers door open it scared me.

AFE 'catless' down pipes installed (high temp coated, wrapped & wrap silver spray painted). You can see the factory 'high flow' catted X-pipe too.

Using just the L-shape O2 rear sensor simulator on both sides (facing forward) I have yet to get a code/CEL. The straight simulator did set a code.

How is the clearance/fit with the straight o2 spacer? With my AFE high-flow cat pipes and angled spacers, I'm occasionally getting codes due to not enough exhaust flow around the sensors. I have a pair of the straight spacers sitting here, just haven't installed them yet to test.

I used the straight one on the 'drivers side' at first which cleared fine with the 'catless' pipe but it was responsible for setting the code. I was using an L-shaped one on the passenger side from the get-go because I had read an L-shaped one was needed on that side for clearance. After switching the driver side to the L-shaped one I have never got a code since.

Due to the different engines and down pipes you may need to do a little hole size tweaking to get the flow right. If you are not using the same L-shaped spacers as I show here you may want to try them out (facing forward) on both pipes. IIRC the L-shaped spacers were approx. 9 to 12 bucks each.

PS: I also changed out all 4 original oxygen sensors. I purchased new AC sensors from RockAuto which had the best price I could find at the time.

I too went with new ACD sensors from RA
