It was killing me but I waited the full 500 miles for breakin before going WOT. So about 10 seconds after hitting 500 miles my foot was on the floor in track mode. I'm very happy with the cars performance, just have a few questions. The tranny did up shift a few times early, one gear at 5800 then about 6200 on the next gear. I'm not sure if the car has to learn driving habits to hold the gear consistently at 6500 like I see some do in the YouTube videos??? Also it felt like it hit a rev limiter once so I lifted.. Not sure what that was about. All these pulls were with an A8 left in drive in track mode.. Any insight would be appreciated.. Thanks

I am sure the transmission needs to learn your habits, how soon and how much I can't say. I can say using launch control mine short shifts first to second and I think it's just staying in the power band all other shifts are at 6.3 to 6.4K rpm.
I will comment on the rev limiter, it did not hit the limiter, GM programmed 100ms fuel cut off between shifts so I assume you heard fuel lighting up in the cats. As far as I know all C7 A6 & A8s do that and it sounds like you hit the limiter or back fires. It's Normal.
When you lifted what you probably felt was the behavior of the performance algorithm which continues to hold the lower gear after you lift off the pedal since it assumes you may be going back to full throttle soon (such as in slowing for and then accelerating out of a curve). Just more of the intelligence built into recent GM automatics, enjoy!
Thanks guys.. When I say I hit the rev limiter it was on 100% acceleration. I was different then the quick cut out between gears.. Felt very much like hitting a limiter.. Only happen ice so far so I'll see what happens.
As far as the wot shifting rpm im hoping it learns to give me consistent 6500 rpm shifts on all wot shifts.
If you truly never went WOT before, I'd thing the system needs to calibrate itself. Too early to worry about unusual shifting. Give it 100 miles of random driving with WOT track mode mixed in. Then report back if things seem strange.
Also, when you hit the rev-limiter on the LT1, it simply falls on it's face until you let off and get back on the gas after shifting.

Could have been traction control, or just the computer figuring out everything. My A8 behaves a lot different after 1400 miles than it did when it was new.
I have noticed my car shifts a little early sometimes too, but I think it has a little to do with the tach not being able to keep up with the engine. I wish I could data log it and see where it actually shifted not what the tach said it shifted at.

I've noticed on the 1-2and 2-3 at wot the exhaust has a brief "flutter"while shifting..similar sound as rev limiter bounce...imo
Shifts like lightning in track and sport and gets better with more miles...
