Default Disabling X-pipe cats

Has anyone disabled their X-pipe cats? How? It looks like you can get to them easily- are they ceramic type that can just be busted up?

Get a Borla/Corsa X-Pipe that does not have cats, bolts right up.

They are like $400

The stock ones are a honeycomb design if I remember correctly, not sure of the material.

The Corsa one is less than $400 and it works really good on a C6. Check youtube the C7 one looks NICE...

Well the C-7 Corsa is $560 and the Borla is $440. I'd rather not spend that if I can just bust up internals of the OEM cats.
Actually, the OEM looks like it flows pretty good- not like the OEM C-6.

The OEM cats are a metal material, NOT ceramic...and...they are a pain. Still working on gutting them.

Why bust them up when you can sell them and recoup some of the money you laid out for the borla.

I doubt the OEM are worth very much.

WOW....pricey. I would hope that's a 3" pipe for that price.

How about cutting the secondary cats off of the stock intermediate pipe, cut the flanges off the stock cats, and weld the flanges onto straight pieces of pipe, fitting up to the exhaust manifolds?

That should be a lot less than $440, though kind of a hack job.

I managed to remove the converter innards in the X-pipe cats. A lot of work, with a lot of sweat and swearing. Made a difference in the sound but not as much as I had hoped.

Sorry to hear that - the negative about having the remaining cat bodies there are that they are acting as a very simplistic resonator (more akin to an attenuator) and slightly altering the sound you'd get with an aftermarket X.

Though, overall, there's not a ton of sound to be gained there (and no performance), so you're probably still ahead of the game, at least dollar-wise.

Was thinking of this too but there is an advantage to keeping the hollowed stock secondary cats.

If you live in an area that does a visual cat inspection or even drive through one and get caught you'll wind up with a horrific fine.

Don't know from personal experience but have heard stories.

Now that you have removed the innards what would you suggest to others who may be thinking about this that would make the job better, quicker and easier?

Remember, secondary cats are exempt from visual inspection (even in California) as they are beyond the emissions control system. I had a pretty good post about that but can't find it at the moment.

Your right! I'm wrong. Got the primary and secondaries mixed up. Thanks
