Default Added a Catch Can today on a Non-Z51

So I noticed a thin coat of oil on the back side of the TB blade and hope this catch can helps from ingesting in to the intake after the TB. I never added one on any corvettes or others I have owned in the past and never seen a need for one.

No Corvette before this one (except for fuel injected C2) was direct injection. No need for a catch can on those.

The best money you can spend under the hood. I average 1/4" of oil in 1,000 miles.

Added one to my non Z51 C7 after I pulled the factory and intake/heads to swap them out. Already had an oily film at 7,000 miles.

Just added it today, I don't think it is too late for me about 2700 miles, all the hoses seem dry. Glad I found out about this issue early.

First Corvette I had was a C2 64 HT/Convertible but it was just the 365 HP 2.02 none FI, wish I still had it again.

I took my catch can off today to clean it I found about an 1/8" of fairly clean looking oil in it.

Best place to mount the CC is in a cold location, when I had my ZL1 I had it mounted in the CAI. Condenses good in that location.

The ZO6 I have heard has a very good PVC system to stop oil getting into the intake.

So Bob how many miles, how many miles for that amount of oil, is it a Z51, how long have you had the can on, year and how did you do the brake-in? I saw no sign of oil except a very fine film on the back side of the TB blade on mine.

I was thinking that also but for a different reason ( the fumes being cooler entering the intake). It is not mounted to the block but it does absorb / soak the heat.

I installed the can in Oct after reading about oil ingestion and cars pushing oil into the air intake system, but my car never did any of that.

I did remove the TB and found oil behind it, before the can install, this could have been from the original oil and it being overfilled.

The oil was barely a bottom cover of oil in the catch can, I did not measure it, possibly a tablespoon full.

I'm sure this thing pulled out oil vapor and condensed it in the can which is it's job, I have seen the same amount of oil behind my 5.3 chevy truck.

It is just physics. You can get the oil out of the air by cooling or slowing it down. Longer hoses, baffles and a cool CC is how the oil and water is removed.

So far I have be lucky with the car (no problems) I think I got a good one. It does not seem to be using oil but I never knew or thought about the oil going into the manifold then getting the valves / intake ports deposits. To me it is extra insurance to help prevent degrade of performance. It well be interesting to see the results of the CC by next oil change.

Nice addition to the car. I've got one on my C5 and it gathers up a noticeable amount of oil in a few thousand miles.
