I have reduced the amount of noise I was hearing. Here is what i did:
- I found a road that really helped with making the noise
- started moving my hand around to try to stop it
- felt and found that my passenger seat was up against the headliner so it was suspended and the clips vibrated
- dropped down the passenger seat
- used a couple fist shots to the headliner
- drove that road for another 30 minutes and didn't hear the noise again

I think I should still remove and did what ls3zob did. I just worry about damaging something.

Thanks!

Could you list the order of the panels here?

Sure, here's the order. You don't have to take the headliner piece off if you're not removing the quarter panel window trim, but most aren't going to just remove the lower piece only. Anyway, the headliner piece has 9 total clips, 3 on each side and 3 in the center around the roof latch. You CAN only take the 3 off of each side you're working on, but if you have a noise issue you want to address, just pull the whole headliner piece off, it's easy enough.

Just got back from a 45 minute drive on various road surfaces. I may have added a couple pounds of weight with dynamat strips in various locations and although I didn't have a particularly rattle-infested car, what a difference even with the mag on Track mode the entire time. Finally sounds like a $65k car inside. Doors are solid, dash area is ok, but I may pull the dash this winter too and work on that a bit. The only sound I ever want to hear inside is my NPP in track mode, nothing else.

When I had my C6 I put in RAAMmat BXT and Ensolite and it made a big difference. While the C7 is quieter than the C6 it still exhibited a good amount of drone over various road surfaces.

This weekend I took out the rear and put in 2 layers of BXT and 2 layers of Ensolite, except for the rear wall so the exhaust isn't dampened. I also tried to pad all of the touching surfaces with either Velcro or Ensolite to try to eliminate any current and future squeaks.

Once I was done road noise was significantly reduced and the car seems more solid (less creaks) going over speed bumps. I still have one rattle I need to figure out around the passenger quarter panel window that only occurs ever so often on very rough roads.

In total it added around 20 lbs to the car but in the scope of things it is a small increase in weight for a dramatic increase in the car's quality.

I don't think this is my issue. When passenger pulls down on plastic slot seatbelt comes out of on B pillar rattle stops, until released. Dealer cant simulate rattle after 3 attempts to fix, only rattles 25% off the time.

I appreciate the picture, but I still don't understand where to start. The center first and then??

Finally decided to chase down one tiny intermittent rattle that's been annoying me since the car was brand new (2014 w/38k miles). I took these panels out and used adhesive felt on quite a few contact points! These cheap sheets of adhesive felt from the craft store are an absolute lifesaver for those of us who are **** about rattle/squeak-free interiors. I recently used it on my 2017 GMC Terrain SLT as well.

Sidenote: Bose speakers are absolute junk and no better than the cheap paper ones found in base model econoboxes.

I use the soft side of Velcro because it is nylon so it very durable. Its also very similar to what the factory uses to eliminate squeaks between hard panels. Been using it for 20+years with good results. Haven't used the felt material so have no comment.

I glued jute on the inside wheel wells to reduce road noise. Also, glued jute on the bulkhead behind the seats. That area is a major source of road noise coming into the interior.

The hardest part was getting the little insert out...It fits really tight. I had to use a plastic trim tool, but they are all just push in clips..I think after they have been removed once or twice, they may loosen up a bit.

Great pictures from another thread so I wanted to add them here!

So can a novice like me take care of this. It’s been to the dealer once for the rear passenger speaker area rattle with no luck. Trying to get it in again one more time to see if they can take care of it, if not guess I’m going to have to give it a try and I am definitely not handy with working on cars. Lots of good info here but still not sure I want to tackle it with my luck.
Thanks

Reposting the guy above's picture but with my own squares.

I have removed all the pieces seen in red/blue squares/rectangles:
1. Roof trim in the red rectangle at the top
2. Rear passenger window/speaker trim AND the piece to the right of it (roof hook)
3. Battery foam and battery plastic cover
4. Big piece of plastic between the rear carpet and the car/fusebox
5. The entire rear trim piece that has the hatches mechanism inside

Even still after removing ALL of these things, I am still getting a vibration with a certain amount of exhaust noise (I have a loud exhaust).
Any further assistance would be very nice. The sound still sounds like it's coming from the passenger rear corner. Somewhere on the passenger side towards the back.

I’m going to tackle this over the weekend because after about 5,000 miles I developed the rear passenger side rattle. It sounds like someone is shaking a plastic cup full of small rocks over the rear passenger wheel well. Interestlngly enough, the rattle starts and stops with no apparent reason.

Can you post a follow-up after you finish? I'm interested to hear what you found. Thanks!

Follow up. I mentioned it sounded like pebbles inside of a plastic cup. And my findings were?

While installing my 3/4 side skirts, I tapped the rear quarter panel and heard it from under the car. Long story short, while driving pebbles make their way underneath the lower plastic panel. Attached is a pic. So my comparison to pebbles shaking inside a plastic cup was dead on!
