Default --C7 Trans Cooling-- LG Motorsports C7 Transmission cooler

LG Motorsports HD cooler for C7 Corvette

LG Motorsports developed this larger, high efficiency cooler to replace the OEM Z51 cooler on the Stingray to help aid in further cooling of high transmission temperatures. Our cooler not only increases the surface area, but also increases capacity of the oil in the system and gives you a much more efficient design to boot.

Minor trimming of the inner duct is required for install and comes with weather seals for install.

Fits C7 Stingrays equipped with manual or automatic transmissions and Z51 suspension package.

A couple of questions on the installation please. Will a complete fluid drain / change be necessary? If so, where are the drain and fill plugs located on the Z51 A8 transmission? Is there a recommended brand of fluid for dual use on the street and track? Thanks for your help.

You will not have to do a full drain and fill on the car but yes you are going to loose some fluid during the swap. Follow the GM instructions for filing the trans.

You do have to remove the quarter panel to access the cooler for the change.

I need to double check for the A8...but I believe it to be the same as the A6...and we have been using RedLine D6 ATF with all of our auto cooling packages.

Hi Anthony,

I'm not having any luck finding any reference to the A8 servicing procedures. Do you know specifically where the fill plug is located on the 2015 Z51 A8, and any special instructions for topping off the fluid level, such as while the engine is running at operating temp, etc.?

Thanks,

JV

I am also interested in this for 15 Z51 A8 and cannot locate info anywhere. Of course GM has still not responded to me about the overheating problem even though the ASK TADGE post said that they would have a kit.

Thanks

Transmission Fluid Fill Procedure

Caution: Use Dexron® HP transmission fluid only. Failure to use the proper fluid may result in transmission internal damage.

Caution: Check the transmission fluid level immediately after adding fluid and before vehicle operation. Do not overfill the transmission. An overfilled transmission may result in foaming or fluid to be expelled out the vent tube when the vehicle is operated. Overfilling will result in possible damage to the transmission.

Check the transmission fluid level, refer to Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check.

Fill Tube Plug Method

Caution: Use Dexron® HP transmission fluid only. Failure to use the proper fluid may result in transmission internal damage.

Based on accessibility, transmission fluid may be added through the fluid fill tube plug assembly (1) hole or through the oil level check plug (2) hole in the bottom of the transmission fluid pan.
Caution: Before removing the transmission fluid fill tube plug assembly, thoroughly clean around the plug to prevent dirt or contaminants from entering the transmission during plug removal. Use compressed air to dislodge any caked dirt that may be stuck on and around the plug area. Use a mirror to confirm the area is free of dirt before removing the plug. Failure to clean around the plug may result in transmission contamination.

Clean around the fluid fill tube plug (1).

Note: It may be necessary to use a long pair of 90 degree needle nose pliers to lift the plunger and remove the plug assembly.

Unlock the fill tube plug by lifting the plunger. Once the plunger is lifted, remove the entire plug assembly (1).
Determine the approximate amount of fluid needed to fill the transmission, based on the repair performed. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities. To avoid an under-fill condition, slightly overfill the transmission, and then allow the extra fluid to drain out through the oil level check plug during the transmission fluid level and condition check procedure.

Note: When the oil level check plug is removed with the engine OFF, transmission fluid may drain from the hole.

Remove the oil level check plug.

I added the original cooler after I switched to the larger one but it didn’t do all that much good. Only when I went with the hi-cap tranny oil cooler did the temps come down significantly.

I wrote hi-cap oil cooler, but I meant tranny oil pan. A lot more oil in the system makes all the difference.

So is there a way to put the 2016 and newer trans oil cooler up front on a 2015 Z51 A8?
