Default Source for 180 Thermostat?

I was going to swap out to a Dewitts Radiator this week and I thought while I had the system open I would install a 180 stat. Found some threads but it looks like the Lingenfelter and others are all out of stock everywhere I checked.

From prior generations, I know 180 is best for me.

Anyone know of a source for a 180 stat in stock?

Please, do not turn this into a stat debate. Just looking for source.

All kinds of people having problems with the Lingenfelter stat. Check some threads. Seems like LMR has a new housing and stat that people are leaning towards, that is where I am headed. Good luck...

The bulb in the Lingenfelter stat is good, it's the gasket that is failing. I took apart the Lingenfelter stat and put it's bulb in the shell/gasket of a stock GM stat. Works like a charm and isn't prohibitively expensive, like some who sell housing and stat.

Speeder, that is good to know. Would rather not spend the coin for housing and just retro the LME stat...

We both have these installed and they are MUCH better than the Lingenfelter. The seal is much thicker and molded onto the TStat. Pretty sure they offer 160, 170, & 180 tstats.

Summit markets the 160 & 170 as their own brand, while the 180 is branded as a Powertech. From their pix, they look identical though. My experience with the Summit 170 is that the seal cannot be removed and thus shouldn't fail. In normal highway driving, I see 172-178 deg temps. If I sit at idle for a few minutes the temp goes up to nearly 200, but still less than the stock Tstat readings. I have no tune, so my fan temp settings are stock.

Note that from the pictures, the ones available from Summit look identical to the Lingenfelder ones, and different than the stock Tstat. Both of the 160 & 170 that I got from Lingenfelder had seals that failed because they could easily come off the rim of the Tstat. After waiting a couple months for revised ones, they refunded my money. They were very easy to deal with... Great Company.

I get on the highway on. Steady pace
170-178

street 175-185

Are you saying the Summit ones are the same as the Lingenfelters?? If so that is most certainly not true. Maybe the bulb itself is the same but the gasket setup is completely different..

Yup. Not worth the pain & aggravation this caused me when the gasket failed.

ARGH! After reading Mighty Mouse's thread, I think this is a bad idea and I'll just send the 180 stat back to Summit and just install the Dewittes radiator and leave the stock stat alone.

I'll post pictures when I get home later. I've owned both, the same as EcoBrick Bob has. The summit one is different and better.
