I just do a simple drain & fill and it's taken the exact amount of fluid called for so I saw no need to check and top-off.

Nice write up Krakca. Just wondering. The C7 owner’s manual recommends changing the diff fluid at 45K. This seems a little long to me. You indicated you performed the change at 22K miles. Do you have any thoughts about the recommended mileage interval before one services their diff and trans? Also wonder why GM does not recommend a change at 500 miles as they do for the engine. Any thoughts about this topic would be appreciated.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the call for a 500-mile engine oil change did not exist when I got my car (early 2014) but I did at least change the factory oil filter at 1,500 miles and left the factory oil-fill remain until around 6,500 miles since sometimes the factory-fills do contain a break-in additive (some cars, not sure about the C7 to be honest). One thing I wish I would have done, which I did not with this car, was change out the transmission and differential fluids earlier on around 1,500 miles or so once the break-in was complete to flush out the wear-in particles. Do I think i hurt anything by not doing so? No...but it still is cheap & easy peace of mind. The first changes did contain a metallic sheen to the oil, but my 2nd change of the transmission fluid did come out much cleaner, although I could feel it in the shifter that it was definitely time to get it done. I have not yet changed out the differential fluid again, but I do plan to around 45k miles since I effectively cut the recommended interval in half with the first change. My 2-cents, running the factory fluid to 45k miles is too long, especially for a car that is driven aggressively at times. I've been very religious about drivetrain fluid changes, and a huge fan of Redline in transmissions, for nearly the past 2 decades and I've yet to have a failure; not exactly scientific, but it's a good enough proven track-record for me!

The aluminum 1.5 ton jacks from Harbor Freight it's low enough on our cars?! that's not a low profile right? I got a Z06 and almost got that jack this weekend, they had it on sale for 55 bucks!!! but heard many said that it fails randomly and out of nowhere so didn't pull the trigger, how are you liking it? I kept run into that car jack on youtube and here etc, seems like a good jack so many people use it!

at 500 miles I only changed the engine oil, how important is it to change out tranny and differential fluid at 500 miles? heard many cars were underfilled from factory but I never checked those fluids! I got 3k miles now. thanks for the write up.

The blue & silver aluminum jacks to fit under the C7. I have my car fully lowered on the stock bolts with a front splitter and sideskirts and the Harbor Freight jack still fits along with using a hockey puck as a jacking puck. I've never had one fail on me at all. The first one I bought finally wore at after 5+ years of use (the hydraulic fluid started leaking out), but the other two I currently have are still going strong and I have zero complaints with them. Regardless if you're using a $30 jack, or a $300 jack, always make sure to put jackstands under the car before crawling underneath to work on anything.

I don't think its *important* to change out the transmission and rear differential fluids at 500 miles, but if I were to do it all over again I'd probably do both around 1,500 miles rather than waiting until 22k miles like I did just to clear out the break-in debris earlier on in the car's life. I got my car before the 500-mile break-in oil change became a thing for the dry-sump cars so my factory-fill oil stayed in until the oil life monitor said it was due for a change around 6,500 miles (I did swap out the factory oil filter for a fresh ACDelco filter at 1,500 miles though).

thanks for that, maybe I will swap out tranny and diff fluid as well.

It's the same transmission and differential fluids for Z06 M7 right?

So it will shift better than OEM fluid/new?! that's very interesting, change out the break-in shavings and get better shift at the same time! can't beat that. thanks for the write up!

Yes, same transmission fluid in the 7-speed manual and rear differential fluid regardless of trim/model.

Yes, I have this same jack and use it frequently. It does not fit under the front of the car to the jack point on my '17 GS with Stage 1 aero but it does fit under the sides and reaches the rear center jack point without issues. The jack is light and inexpensive for an aluminum jack.

Hey man I got '17 Z06 with stage 1 aero as well! thanks for the reply! nice HF only charges 7 bucks to ship it, don't even need to go to the store. This isn't even low profile, will work on my focus st that's perfect.

So it won't fit under the front end, well I just do basic maintenance it should be ok.

( Actually what maintenance/repair have you run into that this jack doesn't work, since it can't go under the front end)

For differential plugs I see that it needs to be torqued to 20 lb/ft. I didn't see the torque specification for tranny plugs or maybe I missed it. tranny plugs also needs to be torqued right? are they also 20 lb/ft.

Sure thing. Just to confirm this is the one I have. If you go their web site you can find a $40 coupon for this jack through the end of March.

I also have the 3 ton low profile and that dude is heavy.

I use whatever I can get on sale.

I've seen used oil analysis on Bobisoilguy forums of people running autozone brand synthetic oils and having it come out fine. The main matter was just changing it on time.

Regardless of saying all that, i am a sucker for Redline marketing.

That's what I put in when I changed mine last year. Fluid level was about 1/2 quart low when I drained it and the diff plugs were not torqued at all as I barely touched them with the wrench and they turned.

From factory a lot of vette fluids are under filled huh?! I really should check/change mine soon. Not good the same for factory alignment ruining tires!!!

For differential plugs is it also 20 lb/ft to torque them? The same as the tranny plugs.

Ouch, I didn't see that you were in Canada. With that in mind, I too would likely go with the Mobil 1 or Redline!

Hello Guys,

Sorry to revive this threat, but I'm looking to change my 17 z51 transmission and rear differential fluid as well. I've read all the comments but I'm still confused to the OEM fluids I should put on both.
Can you some post how many quartz the transmission will need and rear differential and the brand/fluid type I should use to not mess with warranty?

thanks!
