18 X 10.5 Z51 wheels - Tires for drag racing???
So it looks like there are a few options out there but was curious what most are running. I am thinking 305/35-18 Mickey Thompson ET Streets are the way to go but here are a few questions.
How will 305/35 fit on a 10.5" wheel
Any rubbing on a car lowered on stock bolts?
I will for now have my 19" wheels up front. Will look silly but will it throw any codes?
The overall difference between the stock 285/30-20 and 305/35-18 are about 1% overall so I am excited about that.

If you want an affordable option get 2 C5 Z06 replica rims (18x10.5) with 285/40/18 MT S/S drag radials. I have this set-up on my C7 Z51.
Yes the off set on the C5 Z06 wheel is a bit wider, but with the 285/40/18, it doesn't stick-out too far at all. Some people with the same rim go wit a 305 or a 315 tire, and it sticks out on the C7 and doesn't look good. Also, the 18" tires has more side wall, which is better for drag racing.

Thank you for the feedback. I already purchased the rear rims now I am looking at tires. Right now it looks like I am down to a couple choices:
Mickey Thompson ET Streets
Nitto NT555R

Nitto NT555R

Are you able to fit a 305/40/18 there? Do they come in that size? Should be fairly comparable diameter to stock j believe and will be better for racing.
From what I've heard, Mickeys are the best gripping off the line, but have been hearing complaints of high speed wobble and one guy had the bead blow off. I'm going to NT05's myself and always heard good things about them. I assume the NT555R is similar.

Melting Slicks
Get the ET streets....I've had both, and the Nitto's aren't much better than a street tire. Also, 305/35/18 is perfect for the 18x10.5 wheel.

I wouldn't recommend it Teddy. I ran those tires on my new Z06 and the car got scary by the time I went through the traps.
I think I made six passes that night and on half of them I came pretty close to lifting as the car started swaying back and forth. I thought it might have been something with the wheels but everything was fine after I switched back to the Hoosiers.
Turns out I wasn't the only person this happened to as another guy with a Z06 experienced pretty much the same thing.

I am in the same exact boat as Teddy and want to pickup the same combo (18" rears with drag radials). Seems confusing though, to get mixed feedback on both Mickey Thompsons and Nittos.
I live in New England and in the spring and fall seasons, there are many cool days (high 50s, low 60s). I would like a tire that works in the cool temps as well as summer heat (high 80s up here).

Our stock 10" rear wheels have a 79 offset. For comparison, a 10.5 wide wheel that would stick out the same as stock would have an offset around 83-84.
There are offset calculators that should give you a very close idea what will fit. After checking how the wheel fits, you can look at tire widths at the widest point as well as thread width compared to wheel width.

The C5 18x10.5 offset is +56
if I get a 315/45/18 NITTo will I have any issues or that will be fine
Also they have a 18' z51 replica is a offset of 56 I rather get those if they will go on

The wheel/tire will stick out a good bit past the fender with the 315/45/18. Also, the 315/45/18 is probably going to be too tall. You don't want any issues with rubbing, and I have heard a tire much taller than the factory size can cause ABS issues. I have a 285/40/18, and I feel anything wider would look goofy and stick way too far out on the C5 Z06 replica rims. I only recall the rim being for a C5 Z06 when I ordered mine...not sure about anything related to a firebird. If you order the 18" C5 Z06 replica rim in the link above, you should be fine.

Yeah my impulse buy didn't allow me to see the fact the offset IS 56. I didn't even notice they show for C5 and fbody. Well lets see what happens.
