Default Experienced or pro input on torque converter

I am having to make the decision of to put an after market torque converter or not in my Procharged A8 -Z. Yes we are installing a cam. Along with all the other goodies, port polish heads, arh, meth. Some vendors say yes others say not needed. What's are others doing?

Aftermarket tc would be great, but there isn't one that i know of for the a8. I called yank and they said they are currently working on one but the person i spoke with didn't seem too optimistic about it being worth the cash or that it would come to market anytime soon.
I talked to them about 2weeks ago.

Im having a Procharger installed this weekend but have a A8 Stingray.

Circle D has them. Depending on what cam you have you might get away without one. I wouldn't waste $ on one that is under 3400 stall

Talk to Andre at Edge. He may be able to rebuild your converter.

If you don't cam your car after the Procharger I would leave it as is. I have a 16 Z51 with A8 and a AA V3 Ti blower and stock converter works fine.

Chris Sehorn who owns Circle D can advise you on availability and stall RPM. There was a thread several months ago that he was working with someone on one, as Circle D needed the stock one as a pattern.

My experience with the A8 is the stall as stock is over 2K. I agree that if you do it, you would want at least a 3400. Why not try it as stock before considering the aftermarket TC. Also, when I did one in my G8, I later had an issue with my stock flex plate which was replaced later. Because Vette's tranny is in the back, not sure if this could be an issue or not.

What are you planning to do with the car? For the street... I wouldn't bother. If you're aiming for a time at the drag strip, the converter will help your 60' for sure. As EcoBrick mentioned though, the stock stall in the A8 is actually already pretty high so I would see how you feel with the stock stall initially.

We have a few options for the C7 8L90....They are totally different than the older 6 speed mechanically and tuning wise. Current options are using the OE converter and upgrading to our billet stator. Still a work in progress, as we are seeing how aggressive we can get with the limited tuning options on the converter. You guys can send messages in to HP Tuners and push them for more tables on the TCC settings, that might inspire them to hopefully dig a little deeper and help a lot.

FYI - we are now sponsors here so we can help more with tech questions.

Have you worked with Trifecta? Their C7 tune re-calibrates both the ECM and the TCM, including the slip profile of the torque converter. Made a big difference on my 2015 A8. I think they've gone further than anyone on the A8 and its TC.

I have the Circle D modified converter in my car with billet stator. It seems to have loosened it some. You definitely will not get 3400 rpm out of it, but I do believe it has helped my car. I had my best 60' of 1.48 the other night on low boost with my A&A supercharger. I believe once I switch pullies (hopefully for this weekend), it will help even more. On a z06 with the roots style blower with more immediate torque, I think it would help even more than my centrifugal.

That's good to know for sure. When I was thinking (still am) I was planning nitrous or NA build. Those both went out the window as I just had a Procharger installed.

More torque usually gets you a higher stall #. I'de rather have the TC company finalize a TC for the different applications.

Hi Chris! I sent an email in through the CircleD website but figured posting here might be faster and help others.

Do you think your upgraded A8 torque converter would help with the delayed engagement/banging into D or R issues at all?

If you want to fix that banging into Drive or Reverse, I just did a Fast Adapt Learn using HP tuners and monitoring the Trans Learn status and it fixed the rough engagement issue on my 2015 100%! Takes about 10 minutes, keep your foot on that brake.

you know this thread is from 2016 right ....

And the Fast Adapt relearn process is a well known cure for banging into gear and Shift Flair
