For all of you: We have been through two iterations of prototypes thus far. After each iteration, the need for engineering changes has been transmitted to the gear's manufacturer.

The last prototype evaluation took place at the end of August. The gear pattern was not acceptable.

The manufacturer is working on the third iteration of the gear sets:
  1. Once a third level prototype of the gear sets has been manufactured, a sample will be sent, and we will perform a standard setup.
  2. If the pattern from that level of prototype is acceptable, a set of gears will be placed in a C7 Z06 for highway and performance evaluations.
  3. When those tests are completed satisfactorily, the manufacturer will be authorized to make the first production run of 50 or 100 gear sets.
At that time I will let you know about availability. Please be patient.

The smooth one is the ELSD differential while the other uses conventional clutches like the C5 and C6

Is this also the case with the C6 Z06/ZR1 gears ?

By the time they get gears for the C7, the C8 will have been out a couple years.

When we have finished the work on this level of prototype I will let you know.

Default Third Level of Prototype Status

We have finished analyzing the third level of prototype, and the results is as follows:
  • The ring gear was too thick. We were unable to get a pattern with the GM shims.
  • The results have been forwarded to the Italian manufacturer, and they are working on prototype number four.

The fourth level of prototype is in the air as I write this reply.

The Italian manufacturer said this prototype should allow us to get an acceptable gear pattern with GM shims. Once I have that gear set, I will arrange with RPM to take it down there and work with Kurt to establish if we can get an acceptable pattern.

I will let you know the results as soon as we have some.
