Perhaps such short trips is having some effect on oil consumption too. I know my mileage is low (12-14mpg range). Exhaust tips do not show unusual coking/carbon buildup... there is no oil seepage under the car as a careful inspection shows no oil leaks.
I look forward to forum members feedback. Thank you.
My emphasis was on getting rpms down. Doing those kinds of speeds gets them well below the 3500 buzzing number. Besides the engine can easily handle it with all the torque that is available at off idle rpms on up.

no burnouts -
no 1/4 mile runs -
no throttle to the floor stunts
light footed progression
i do nothing crazy
but no throttle stabs
nothing too the floor
sweeping motion, not throttle stabs
Take it to the track, blow the carbon out of it!

The pampering you've been delivering hasn't worked. You might as well start driving it safely but aggressively, presuming you are indeed now past your breakin period.

If you've really got that much oil going through a supercharged engine it's going to start detonating under load (oil has an octane rating of about negative one million). If you get lucky, maybe you'll blast a ring land off a piston and then they'll -have- to fix it!

I think you want this problem to get a lot better or a lot worse - the last thing you want to do is maintain the car in some weird "can't really use it" state until the warranty is gone!

good point....i wonder if i can use it as a tax deduction

Default Update

It has been 516 miles since my last oil change with Mobil 1 5w-30. I have not done any engine braking, my M7 shifts have been very conservative, highest RPM has been about 4,000. Oil useage has been minimal. I wonder how much oil can be used/burned when engine used as a brake?
Last 2 months I used about 1 qt. of oil in under 1400 miles. During the last 516 miles used virtually no oil.

Car has never been tracked and never abused. Car driven under 2500 RPM until fully warmed. It seems incredible that engine braking, and regular 5000 RPM 2X daily (on a full stomach) can use so much oil in so few miles. Was it the Pennzoil Ultra oil, my driving, or....??
I will continue to monitor. Hopefully this episode of excessive oil use is over.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I use engine brake constantly. My brakes last me on average 100K miles.
I haven't tracked it.Change oil regularity.Never need to add any oil.

Nowadays that would be considered normal since the distance travelled between oil changes is about that much although I have seen close to 8K miles before the OLM told me to change the oil. That was a 4 cylinder 08 Malibu that is still going strong with my Grandson driving it now. My 03 Tahoe hasn't used a noticeable amount between oil changes that occur on a 6K average. It has 110K miles on it now. The oil was changed last July and is sitting at 50% with 3K of heavy trailer towing on it. Both of those are using Dyno Oil not synthetic.

The last 3000 miles in my 2014, the oil level has only dropped about half a quart.

Same here, no measurable consumption at 4k, 3.3k after last oil change. Not many redline shifts, mostly moderate suburban driving, no track miles.

I am burning almost a quart of oil every 1000 miles in my 16 Z06, especially if I had a track session. Don't like it, but car runs great. What can Corvette do about it? I hate to have a ring/piston job, so just feed it oil.

OK a old to new post. I put together a new z06/replacement block with my eciting diamond pistons and total seal rings, naper
second ring. Engine is great. Oil consumotion as low as 1/4 quart in 2000 miles.

Actually manufacturers don't consider that excessive oil consumption. If you haven't switched to 15W50 for the track that might be the reason you see excessive usage on the track.
