Default Anybody remove rubber dam / three sections bottom of front of car and if so, why?

I notice that the air dams, three pieces that are located on the bottom of the car in front tear, get messedup easily. I have the two of the outer sides ripped. I was thinking of removing these three pieces. Anybody done this? Also, would it keep tranny cooler due to better air flow? Ger.

GM engineers designed and put those there for reasons involving debris deflection and air flow. Probably best to leave them, although the car won't self destruct if you remove them.

They are also pretty cheap to replace. I have spares.

I removed them on my C6 because they were in the way of the splitter I installed. I like them on my c7 because to me the are a wairning of when I will ground out.

Z51's only have them on the sides, not in the middle.

The Z06 doesn't come with the center section. Removing the side pieces doesn't help with transmission cooling. I imagine removing the center section on your Stingray may not help either. If it was that simple to resolve temperature problems GM would do that in a heart beat. Why would they spend money putting a part in place if it wasn't required. You do have to be careful about making changes to cars because you think you know more than the engineers that designed the cars. They had to justify the cost of the parts being purchased and installed.

Took them off my C6 and I took them off the C7. Unless you run 150 MPH every day during your driving, as they are designed for high speed functionality, they really don't help that much. I like the look with them off.

why are they there on base cars and not performance models if they're for cooling?

They are there for airflow. They supposedly also might aid in gas mileage.

I removed them. Didn't like the looks. Installed secondary radiator for improved cooling and it works fine without the air dam pieces.

I took mine off because I couldn't stand the scraping. It's a cleaner look too.

Did it on my C6's too -- never a cooling issue, even here in the desert southwest. I didn't like the goofy "rubber mudflap" look in front of the front tires and they scraped on every single entrance-- annoying on a daily driver.

Not positive but I can tell you I did an LT1 swap in my 1984 C4 and removed them only to find the car would over heat on the highway. At first this made no sense to me I could drive at low speeds all day in tragic at 190deg no problem but sure enough 15 miles at 60 plus the car would creep up to 230 and overheat.

After discussing with a couple of people we decided perhaps the shields were there to disturb airflow at speed and stop a venturee affect at highway speed not allowing air to pass over the radiator.

Now keep in mind the C7 actually has a grill and does not only take air from under the car so not really the same situation just food for thought.

Bottom breathers need the flap. The C7 is not a bottom breather, nor was the C6.

They could make them an option and make money by selling them as "extra stuff you need if you drive really fast".
